Proving Your Internship

Im currently working as an intern at a local Korean-American TV/Radio Broadcasting station. This is an unpaid internship, more for the volunteer/experience i guess. My question is how would I prove that i did this internship when applying for my schools. Do I state it in the common app or the schools' supplements? Or do I have to get something signed?

Bumpppppppp

You do not need to prove you did the internship. College application or job application is based on honor system, except for your transcript (grades). One thing to keep in mind is it is very easy to Google people’s information for verification. My kid listed track as one of her ECs, so if you were to google her name, you could see her time and meets she has attended. Adcoms are quite experienced in reading applications, so I think it wouldn’t be hard for them to figure if an applicant is stretching the truth abit. They will also call up your GC to verify some of your ECs if necessary.

Employers will often do basic verification of previous claimed employers (“did [name] work there from [date] to [date] as a [title]?”) as well as schools attended and degrees earned.

Would it be bad to base your afmissions essay on your internship and why it will help you be successful in your major?

Most of my daughter’s essays were based on an Off Broadway Theatre internship she did in NYC prior to her junior year in high school. She was admitted to every program she applied to/auditioned for, with major merit awards at all her schools.

Generally you don’t have to submit proof of an EC when applying. However some colleges (such as the UC colleges in CA) randomly select students and demand they verify an EC. This would be easy for you to do; if challenged, you could just get a letter from your supervisor. So no worries…

Quick question, how many spaces in the common app are there for short responses and/or essays. I know theres the one essay (I plan to write about hospice volunteering) but my internship is very important to put on it to. Where should I talk about this? It seems wrong to put this in my personal statement, is there a spot to describe your extra curriculars or where is the best spot to mention this?
