Hey everyone, I recently got accepted as a transfer student in computer engineering and on my provisional they listed to complete two of the major prep classes that I planned for the summer (circuits & final physics series). I’m able to get the circuits class over the summer, but none of the community colleges offer the final physics series in the summer. I’ve already emailed and called admissions and all they’ve said was to submit final transcripts and they’ll review it again to decide. I really want to go here but SIRing here seems risky. Anyone else ever been in this situation? Not sure what to do.
What are your other options?
I do have sjsu and ucsc as backup but saving it for last minute
Is there a CC further away that will let you take what you need online?
No community colleges near my area(Bay Area) or LA offers the final physics series. Most only offer the first two physics series(mechanics and E&M)
Is the greater LA area okay? San Bernardino Valley College looks like it has an upper level physics class available. Not sure if it’s the one you need though.
And if you could find one online, then you wouldn’t have any geographical restrictions.
And cal poly Pomona lets people in the community register for and get credit for classes without being a matriculated student there, so that might be an option as well? Maybe the other CSUs do so too?
There is PHYS-142 linked below. Not sure if this is what you are looking for.
https://selfservice.ohlone.edu:8443/Student/Courses/Search?subjects=PHYS
Presuming you mean C-ID PHYS 215 as listed at Welcome to ASSIST . Community colleges (and some CSUs) with that course can be found at https://c-id.net/courses/search (put “PHYS 215” in the C-ID # box).
However, the hard part may be finding one that offers that course in the summer session.
SBVC doesn’t offer the one I need. Pomona has the right class but its a 6 hour drive from where I live since it’s in person.
That’s the one I need but it’s only offered in the spring and fall semesters.
Yea, it’s been very difficult since most community colleges haven’t offered it in the summer in a long time.
My suggestion would be to contact your transfer counselor at your current community college and see if they have the email address or phone number for a specific contact person in the admissions office at UCI who they think might be able to answer the question in a more decisive manner. Then email or call that person and explain your situation, perhaps even with your transfer counselor on the line with you or copied on the email.
You are more likely to receive a dismissive response when you are working through a general admissions contact point (which may be staffed by students answering general emails/phone calls) vs. when you are communicating with an individual who has a position of authority (an actual paid staff member of the admissions department).
sjsu is better for engineering and jobs. pls consider that as an option!!!
