Provisional Invitation

I applied to a college X this year. Eventually, I got waitlisted. Last week I received a letter saying that the school was unable to offer me admission this year. However, they offered me a provisional invitation to join the class of 2020 after taking a gap year.

Does it happen often? I have never heard of anything like this before…

I’ve read it on these boards recently. It must be a new way of trying to help yield.

I have read of such an offer at Yale in past years.

@enot112 Chicago did it in prior years and I think did it this year to one or two people. I have heard of Harvard, Brown and Barnard doing it in prior years mostly with children of alumni or someone else that had a special relationship with th school. Any chance the school was an ivy (still waitiing on a couple and would LOVE to be deferred, so if it was could you say please).

SaphiteNY, no, its not one of the ivies

Whether or not if it’s common or uncommon, the question remains… do you wish to attend that college in Sept 2016 or attend another one in Sept 2015? Not everyone wants to wait that year. Others may feel relieved – to have a full year to focus on something useful, knowing that there’s a wonderful event awaiting them in 9/2016.

It occurs enough – but that’s irrelevant to your specific situation. Best of luck to you in choosing!

Ok Thank you. Good luck and I agree with ^^ you have to decide if it is worth waiting for a year to attend

Oh I have already decided. I was just wondering whether it occurs a lot. :)) Thank you guys! I really appreciate your help.

oops… it should be  instead of :))

I’ve heard of it happening but it’s not the most common thing in the world. Congrats on a decision. Whatever you choose, you will surely thrive.
