Provost Scholarship

I waas offered this scholarship. Can anyone tell me how to figure out how much I am qualified to receive? The UB web site says anywhere from $2,500 up. Do I call? Wil they make that decision AFTER I decide to accept?

I don't mean to be rude, but isn't the amount of money a college offers you part of what assists you in making a decision?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've already searched the web - I have no firm answers. Advice please?
THANKS!

call the financial aid office and ask! that's not rude at all, you need clearer information to help you make your decision.

Thank you. I intend on doing that tomorrow, but this being the weekend and all, I was hoping someone may be able to provide me with the answer. I am delighted that I was offered a scholarship at all since I just sent in my application as an after thought when I found out my cousin was attending there part time next year!

I received the provost scholarship, too, but the amount was listed in my acceptance letter. Mine was for $3,000.

The amount for the provost scholarship was listed right on my acceptance letter, also.

Really???
Mine says, "Congratulations on your acceptance to the University at Buffalo (UB) and your selection to receive a Provost Scholarship! I hope you will decide to attend UB, and am please to invite you to take part in the University Scholars Programs."
I'm confused! Maybe because I am from out of state?

I'll call tomorrow.... But, if anyone else has any comments, I'd sure appreciate it!

CharmingangelC - Was that for each year?

Student12, how much ws yours for, if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks!

PS - Who all is going? I'm from ARIZONA!

Yeah, mine was $3,000 per year for 4 years so it's a total of $12,000. And I'm definitely going.

Mine was $2,500 a year, $10,00 total. I'm not sure if I'm going yet.

What made you want to go to UB from Arizona??

My son's was 2500 for 2 years (OK you guys are all smarter.) Anyway we found out about it when we got our financial aid package a few weeks ago.

Oh heck, I applied to SO many different schools. I've lived all over the US since my dad's job has taken us to many different parts of the country. I have family in the Amherst area and they all said UB was great. Plus they sent me all these Youtube viseos such as: http://youtube.com/watch?v=Ia8UP5tuQ84
I received a second letter for UB about the provost scholarship and it is giving me (should I choose to accept) $2,500.00 annually plus $3,500 annually to help defray the cost of out-of-state tuition.
I thought that was pretty generous since I applied rather late.
I am so confused, I applied to to many schools I think....

Azsummer- did you take the SAT's a second time and do much better (I found an old post of yours) The reason I'm asking is because my son's provost scholarship is only for 2 years and his SAT's were just about the same as the ones you had posted a while back.

yes I did. My math score (the one I'm assuming you're referring to was 570) went up to 630. Are you out of state? I'm waaay far away in AZ plus my dad went to UB. Maybe that is the difference?

yea i had a question i had like an 85 gpa in high school whi ch is below the provost scholarship but then i had 1410 on the sati (reading math) and 680+ on 3 sat II's

anyone in this situation? i got 2500 for 4 years but i feel like its weird cause i didnt meet the requirements thanks

You probably got it because your SAT's were way above the minimum. Don't forget, GPA's can be subjective depending on how difficult your school is. I'm sure they wanted to give someone with your SAT's an incentive to go to Bufallo. My son had the GPA 3.9UW, but only had 610CR and 610M and he only got it for 2 years.. SAt's had to have played a much bigger part.

I don't know how they decide who gets how much money but I have a 93 GPA and a 29 on the ACT. I didn't send my SAT.

ihslax: Were you involved in a lot of extracurriculars? That probably helped if you were.

hmm not too much i played sports every year 1 freshman soph and 2 junior year 3 senior year.

im not like gonna play in college or anything and i did a little community service(500 hours?)...i had no clubs and 1 job for 2 month. the essays were pretty bad too cause i didnt even try to correct them.

oh and i was 5th decile at my school which is ranked 300ish in the country
