PRT with bronchitis?

During our phone call yesterday, our plebe told us that he was diagnosed with bronchitis (fancy name for plebe hack?) and is on some medication. He also expressed concern for having to pass the PRT in the next day or two. The push-ups and crunches shouldn't be a problem, but he is concerned for the run. Will he be required to pass the run even though he is on medication for brochitis? Or will they allow him to skip this test period and take the PRT next semester?

^^^^^
The PRT conducted during plebe summer doesn't count towards anything. It is merely another plebe summer activity to prepare the plebes for the academic year.

The PRT is administered once each semester during the academic year. Those are the tests that need to be passed.

GA,

Apparently there is a change this year. The second (last) plebe summer PRT counts for the fall PRT. However, if the Doc's feel that a MIDN cannot take the PRT, they can give them a chit (waiver to take PRT later) and this does not count against the MIDN.

^^^^^
I stand corrected. Kathie's son might want to consider getting a chit from medical.

I am surprised about this PRT now counting.

jadler do you know if they changed up PEP at all this summer?

My Mid did not pass his end of Plebe summer and said he did not find PEP to prepare them at all for the PRT - general fitness yes PRT specific no (he is a very accomplished distance runner). Once he had his own fitness plan and prepared himself he had no problems with passing either the fall or spring - in fact did even better in the spring.

J03

Can you clarify.

Do you mean that the summer PRT CAN count for the fall, ie. if you pass, y ou don't have to take it in the fall, but does not count against you if you fail, i.e. if you fail, you can take it in the fall, where, if you pass, you are not on remedial.

If you fail summer PRT, are you in remedial until the fall administration?

I don't think there is any way for me to get word to him to ask for a chit. Hopefully, he'll think of it on his own.
Thanks for the schooling.

Kathie- don't worry- the cadre will advise him-

I don't know the specifics. The Brigade has been informed that the plebe summer PRT will count as their Fall PRT (only for plebes). It sounds like this PRT should be taken as though it was a Fall PRT...I wouldn't rely on USNA giving you the benefit of the doubt! A MIDN stays on remedial until they can pass the run at 10:00 for guys (sorry, don't know the girls time....probably 12:10) and/or prove that they can pass situps/pushups...usually the run is the problem. I believe almost every Friday there is a remedial PRT and once you meet the criteria above...you are off remedial.

Profmom, I agree that PEP focuses more on physical stamina vice running.

Cadre and medical staff will advise on chit.

it's 10:30 for guys, 12:30 for girls

The passing time for the PRT is 10:30 for guys and 12:40 for girls. I was talking about the time to get off brigade remedial workouts.

o whoops never mind then lol

Thanks again for all the info.
His bronchitis was treated enough that he could sleep at night.
In addition to the bronchitis, he had a minor hip injury (flutter kicks) that had been well remedied by a corpsman with a few therapy sessions just before the test was administered.
And the good news... he passed his PRT with 9:37 on the run. :-) I know, not the fastest, but fast enough.

That run counted for the Fall PRT, if you failed it counted against you. I think they administer a PRT every weekend for the people on remedials to take so they can get off of remedials. But I'm not positive about that.
