PSAT '09 Form W Thread

I'm one of the early takers... will wait 24 hours until discussing...

Pardon the ignorance, but is Form W for international students?

im from India and i gave form W…

IMO,

the math was easy,
the reading was ok, nothing extraordinary, yet not that easy.
writing was as usual, nothing out of the ordinary.

i have a few doubts for the reading part…
ill talk about them after 24 hours…(btw, is there such a rule for PSAT?)

I’m from maine and got form W. So it can’tbe for internatinal
Math wasn’t too hard but sometimes it seemed intentionally tricky
Writing was easier than I expected.
Reading was actually a little difficult.
I don’t believe we are supposed to talk about PSAT questions at all, not even after 24 hours… at least that’s what my “proctor” (who is also my history teacher) read from his sheet of instructions.

CT, USA here and got Form W

Math was Easy
Verbal was Regular
Writing I thought was trickier than the practice PSAT they gave us.

Math was OK. Predicting -3 or -4.
Verbal was hard; -15? But i suck at this section anyway.
Writing, i checked over my answers twice, hoping for a -0 to max -3.

Critical Reading- I definitely struggled with the first part but the second half of this section was pretty simple.

Math- Same as the critical reading section.

Writing- easy

I was aiming for at least a 220 but I’m pretty sure I didn’t reach my goal.

Hi, just took the PSAT test today and I remember some questions that I did not understand.
(Math Section 1)
1- How many Positive integers less than 1000 don’t have 7 in any digit.

2-Points A,B and X Dont all lie on the same line. Point X is 5 away from A and 3 away from B. How many other points in the same plane as A,B, and X are also 5 Units from A and 3 units from B.

a) None
b) One
c) Two
d) Three
e) Four

(Math Section 2)
(These are supposed to be gridded)
3-The total cost of 8 hats and 5 scarves is the same as the cost of 5 hats and 7 scarves. The cost of each scarf is “d” times the cost of each hat. What is the value of “d?”

4- In the XY plane the line with the Equation AX+BY=1. Where A and B are constants intersects the Y axis where Y=2 (i think). What is the value of B.

I really hate having questions in my head which are unsolved.
If you can give the answers, thanks.
PlanetFruitcake :)

those are the exact same math questions that i had trouble on. i would love if someone could explain how to do them! :)

Anyone else who thought the verbal was the hardest out of the three sections? I took the practice test they gave us and got a 220 (80M 76CR 64CW) but I’m not sure I did so good on the CR this time… the vocab was tough and I think I may have messed up on one or two passage questions. CW… I just don’t know, I never know how I did but I think I did alright, hopefully less than 3 or 4 wrong

wait… so we have to wait 24 hrs until we can discuss this?
is that the rule?
that sucks…

and when do we get our tests?

r we allowed to talk?

I never heard or signed any sort of agreement saying I wouldn’t talk. Not like the APs. If I got in trouble for it it wouldn’t be fair since no where did anything say that I couldn’t discuss the test for a certain period of time.

ok for the question about tone for the two passages, did anyone get

Somber and Wry?

Somber and wry was definitely the correct answer.

and for the first question in the TV passage, was it “note an obstacle” and NOT “criticize shortsightedness”

I wasn’t too sure about that one.^ It did not seem like he was criticizing them though.

That’s what I thought too

Also for this writing question

Sciencetists found something about genes; it__________

Was “it” wrong? or was it NE?

for the scientists one, I put that “it” was wrong

I thought that one was note an obstacle though I thought both answers were pretty similar. I put note an obstacle because I didn’t think the whole criticism was very explicit but I’m sure I’m wrong.
