PSAT 1300

Hi! I’m a sophomore, and was just wondering what a normal PSAT score is and where I fall compared to other tenth graders. My full breakdown is as follows:

Evidence based reading and writing: 700
Reading test: 35
Writing test: 35
Mathematics: 600
Math test: 30.0

Find percentiles here: https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/pdf/psat-nmsqt-understanding-scores.pdf

The “User” percentile is the one that matters, not the “National” one. Obviously, look at the User column for 10th graders, not 11th.

However, note that these User percentiles are not actual percentiles for the 2017 PSAT. Instead, they are the actual percentiles for the 2015 and 2016 PSATs. (And like I said above, forget about “National,” which are something else altogether and were based on a 2015 study.) Considering that the 2017 PSAT was harder than those tests, take the percentiles with a grain of salt.

Solid score keep it up.

thanks so much! @evergreen5 @hannuhylu

That’s a good PSAT score. With some studying and practice tests you should be able to get around a score of 1400 which is enough to get into many fine colleges. Good luck!

From the percentile on your score report, you can tell how you compare with other 10th grade students. Note that PSAT is more than just a practice for SAT, it may potentially get you a scholarship with your 11th grade PSAT. If merit aid is critical for you, you may want to work a little harder for it over the summer. The cut off varies from state to state, but you may need to aim at ~1500 or higher to be qualified.

“Note that PSAT is more than just a practice for SAT,” This is true to some extent. I know many counselors, teachers, parents etc agree with this outlook, as a student whose gone through preparing, its better to think of it as the same thing. What I mean is study for SAT while studying for the PSAT. That’s what I did and I ended with a 1510  (my sophomore score was 1350 ish)

I didn’t prep at all for the PSAT, so it’s good to see that I did relatively well compared to other sophomores!
