My child took the PSAT this past Wednesday and we were looking here to see if we could llook at some of the questions she had difficulty with. Having read about the blood pressure question and many people sayng the correct choices were AGGREVATE and BUTTRESS I just had to put my 2 cents in. Obviously not having seen the question I cannot be 100% sure but here goes. If the question used the word " however "then it is safe to say that you would want the second part of the statement to disagree with the information given in the first part of the sentence. Here goes… Some scientists say sharp noises will affect your blood pressure( and presumably raise it), so both IMPAIR and AGGREVATE could be used interchangeably. So in the next part of the sentence we need to disagree that sharp noises increase your bloodpressure. If you choose the word BUTTREss (or support), then your are in fact agreeing with the scientists conclusion in the first half of the statement and saying that sharp noises really do affect blood pressure. So you are agreeing with yourself twice. But the word “however” suggests an opposing opinion. You must disagree and say that sharp noises don’t affect blood pressure so you must MINIMIZE (disagree) the correlation (that sharp noises don’t affect blood pressure) . I may not have explained myself very well but I am very confident that IMPAIR/MINIMIZE is the correct choice. I would love to hear your thoughts!

I put heightened/diminish because heightened blood pressure causes hypertension and the second word fits the second blank. Sadly, I didn’t notice that it meant blood pressure regulation, not just blood pressure.

Yes, impair/minimize is the correct choice. Nearly the entire PSAT was composed of identical questions from the 2007 November SAT, and they had confirmed that impair/minimize is correct back in 2007. It also seems like we have reached a consensus here as well.

Do you guys have any prediction which SAT the Saturday PSAT might be like? Can someone analyze the vocab words used in the wed one and some SATs and see which one?

impair/minimize is correct. and I wouldn’t go emailing collegeboard until you get the test booklet back from your counselor.

This question pertains to the math section…there was a question with a table with two columns; one was “r”, which had values of 2 and 4 respectively, and the other was “s”, which had values of 3 and 9 respectively. I believe the question told you that “r” was directly proportional to “s”. Was answer choice E (r^2) the correct one?

Yes, it was. However, you have the question wrong. One column was “r”, which had values of 2 and 3 respectively, and the other was “s”, which had values of 4 and 9 respectively. The question asked which of the answer choices was directly proportional to “s”.

Oh, thanks for the correction, but more importantly…I GOT IT RIGHT!!! I might just get an 80 for math…

“What was the answer to the one about the fisherman’s words to the mexican girl? Was it enforcing his wisdom or following up his advice? I kept debating between the two…”

I think it was following up his advice…
honestly…I have no idea…nothing made sense

I thought it was to qualify his earlier recommendation…?!

New York District of Appeals and DC = attempted to reduce the severity of the problem

What were the other choices for this question?

Two authors both felt dualism was “appealing but inaccurate”… did anyone else put like “irrational but reassuring” or something for that one?

And… The awe and wonder about the mind is not dependent on Descartes’ view of dualism… what was that question/choices?

i wish we had our scores back now…

^Me too :(

Anyone manage to get their test booklet back from their school yet?

How is that even possible? The test scores aren’t distributed until december near christmas, and the booklets always come with the scores…

^That’s entirely up to your school. Some schools distribute them as soon as they receive them at the end of November, although most distribute them at some point in December.

Has anyone received their scores yet??

Hoping to get D’s scores back by now since they were given their’s last year 2 days before Thanksgiving. No such luck this year though. :(

We didn’t get ours until January last year.
Hopefully they do it sooner this year.
