PSAT 2010 Wednesday Math Discussion

Sorry if this is asking too much, but can anyone give me the exact points reflected across y=x for an answer of 1/5? Thanks

The reflection question wasn’t 1/5 it was 5/7 or 7/5 I forget. 5/7 I think. The 1/5 answer was where 5y= (square root of 5)x problem.

Stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid careless mistakes.
I want to shoot myself in the foot or something.
Missed three. :/

I think it was (-2, -5) and (3, 2)?

I got -7/5 for the reflection…what I did was found the slope of the two points which was 7/5 I think and I thought after reflecting it, it would become negative… Great, now that’s another question I probably got wrong.

It was 7/5. How could the slope be negative? The two points were in the same places relative to each other.

Oh man Curtislee Thank god i was gonna kill someone if i got ANOTHER careless mistake. And thanks Mascara, that means I got that one right, I think. And Mascara, i made 2 careless mistakes, BOTH SUBTRACTION Errors. Had nothing to do with my mathematical ability and the curve is prob gonna suck

50 for radius
2 sets of parallel lines.
-400 for another (or whatever A was)
640
6760 (or something) like that
9.1
Month 4
5/7
1/5
.35 is between .3 and .4

Add!!!

For the -400 one, I just graphed the equation and looked for the x intercepts.

Is that cheating? O_O

^^^That’s what I got 7/5. I just reflected the two over, (2,5) (-3, -2) y1 - y2/x1 - x2
5+2 = 7 2+3= 5 7/5. :D

What was the venn diagram answer? Is 41 correct?

*** how did you get 7/5

50 for radius
2 sets of parallel lines.
-400 for another (or whatever A was)
640
6760 (or something) like that
9.1
Month 4
5/7
1/5
.35 is between .3 and .4
41 for triple venn diagram

^I just ****ing showed you how.

^ but you are wrong haha

how is that wrong? The graph is y = x and you are reflecting -2, -5 and 3, 2, so you just change their signs…and do slope formula??

No; you exchange the x and y coordinates of each point.

You don’t change their signs. You switch X and Y. YAY I’M RIGHT! I think

(My apologies for the re-post for those who’ve seen this from the main thread)
Form W

=MATH= (in no order)
1)Cube with volume of 10
My answer was 640 because if the side of the second cube is four times the side of the first, the ratio of volumes should be 1^3 : 4^3, or a 1:64 ratio. Since the first cube had a volume of 10, the second must be 640.

2)Letter Letter Number AA2
My answer was 26 x 26 x 10 or 6760 since repeated letters are allowed.

3) Average of 30 numbers
I forgot the exact question, but I put 9.1 I believe. You were supposed to find the sum of the two sets and then divide by 30.

4) Smallest to largest
rt(x), rt(x+1), rt(x) + 1

5) rt(x + 7) - 5 = Positive integer
I put 42, but there are other possible answers.

6) Sports and Drama
You had to subtract the sum of everyone listed from 250 to find x.
x = 250 -58 - 21 - 35 - 26 - 50 - 40 = 20 people in all three.
Then you had to add that to 21 so my answer was 41.

7)(x-2)(x+2) Factor
I put -400. Expand (x+2)(x-2) to get x^2 - 4. Distribute with 100 to get 100x^2 - 400.

8) The number between .3 and .4
.35, just take the average.

9) The January sale
(1200 + 2^5) - (1200 + 2^1) = 30

10) Parking Lot
The length is 315. Add up two widths (x) and two lengths (3x) to get 8x total, or the perimeter, which is 840. (840/8) x 3 = 315.

11) Music store
n > 20. You had to set up 6n > 3n+60 since each song/whatever costs 6 bucks at one place no matter what and the other place charge 3 bucks per item but 60 at the start. Once you set up 6n > 3n+60, subtract 3n from both sides and divide by 3 on both sides.

12) 50 days after Sunday
**Monday/B

13) Popcorn sale
Month 4. Overall sales when up while the sale of (drinks?) went down. At no other point in the graph did the sale of popcorn increase that much.

14) Parallel Lines (mult. choice)
There were two. A pair of vertical angles both had 90 degrees.

I also remember getting “8” on one of the free responses (upper row) and “5/3” appeared on my calculator but I don’t recall the questions.

The answer without a doubt for the slope one was 5/7… I would bet my lifesaver wrapper on it.

The 5/3 question asked how much y was greater than x by.

50 for radius
2 sets of parallel lines.
-400 for another (or whatever A was)
640 volume of cube
6760 for AA2
9.1 is average
Month 4
5/7 slope
1/5 was the one where 5y = x(root something)
.35 is between .3 and .4
41 for triple venn diagram
Monday
5/3 is the difference between x and y (grid in)
n>20 for music store
30 is difference in daily sales
315 for the length of the rectangle
