PSAT 2011 Wednesday Answer Thread

OKAY! The thieves one is not no error! The sentence changed from past perfect to present perfect ( or the other way around… I can’t remember the order of the had and the has anymore.)

^What is Texas’ cut off?

@parktaehwan2:

The first part referred to Duncan’s class: they always stopped their tapes to record his speeches. The stopping/flipping refers to the fact that Duncan was so interesting the students wanted to record everything and ran out of space to record. ON the other hand, Mo was pompous and didn’t give very interesting lectures. None of the students operated their tape recorders.

Difference in behavior.

It’s 28, not 24. it’s asking how many numbers. doesn’t matter if it’s a multiple of three.

also, I’m quite upset for a number of reasons.

many of my answers were wrong.

my school didn’t start the PSAT till a few hours ago, definitely could have viewed this earlier (not saying I would, as that would be cheating…just an observation.

most importantly, I’m repeating my junior year this year. last year, i got a 212 and qualified for NMSF, but had to withdraw because I’m not graduation in 2012 anymore. I’m pretty positive I won’t get NMSF this year. So, qualified last year despite the fact that I didn’t follow through. I think I should still put NMSF on my college app, yeah?

well “has shrunk” is present perfect which is what the sentence originally was. I don’t know about the rest of the sentence though.

@cantconcentrate: I think around 215?

@aboveblues:
Wow, what school do you go to? O:
If you qualified, you qualified. I would put NMSF, but you might want to check with your school.

spkrap322,

I believe we are from U.S. I Could be wrong…
*Oh county, haha ; Gwinnett.

It was past tense, not present perfect. should have been “had shrunken”

spkrap- Cobb
I’m really confident we’re going to get a lenient CR curve. Duncan’s passage was brutal and I’m sure the CB knew this, and a couple of the SC’s were harder than your average level 5 SC. I’m expecting -1 is 80 and -2 is 78. 2011 W has definitely gone down as the hardest PSAT CR I’ve seen.

Writing, on the other hand, might have one of those insane -1=75 curves. The only tricky one was thieves, and even then it was extremely easy to whittle it down to 50-50 odds.

lol County, like gwinett, cobb, etc.
hahaha wow…

Sooo I’m not too adept at this scoring thing. Anyone wanna tell me my score if I missed 2 CR 2 Math and 2 Writing?

Math -0 Writing -0 Reading -5

Asians are inherently bad at CR? Yep I think so.

Would this land me a 231 or 232?

@CantConcentrate

I found a website that lists the cutoffs for last year for all states:

[The problems with the PSAT and National Merit program - The Answer Sheet - The Washington Post](http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/answer-sheet/post/the-problems-with-the-psat-and-national-merit-program/2011/10/10/gIQA7w0pfL_blog.html)

There is an article, so you need to scroll down below to see the cutoff values.

What was really messed up was how section 1 started with a 2-blank SC. It was a hard 2-blank one too, and that just destroyed my momentum … :mad:.

haha i’d say if it weren’t college confidential. I was pretty surprised that it started so late too. My last school started at 8 or so, I think.

Okay, if W has an insane curve I will hunt down whoever writes those questions and open a can of whoopa-- on him/her.

@ChrxswxN
Uhh… too bad Asians are horrible at writing, too.
I have never managed an 800/80 on writing. Ever. Ever. Not once.

Any tips on getting consistency on writing with 750+?

I hear grammatrix is useful, but its like 400 dollars at Amazon.

aboveblues; shrunk and shrunken are both past participles, so I think either could be correct. The real question is whether it should be “had” or “has.”

Rusty84; I really hope you’re right… how many practice psats did you take to prepare? I feel like every year people say that their year’s test was the hardest though.

[ quote]"It was past tense, not present perfect. should have been “had shrunken” [ /quote]

That’s my point! “has shrunk” was wrong!
