PSAT 2011 Wednesday Answer Thread

I got the answer of 35 also. Since the median was 30, b=30. That means a+a+30+c+c=100. So 2a+2c=70. Divide both sides by 2, and you get a+c=35

Nope, you’re right. Flamboyant is basically…exactly what the question describes. In other words, something that wants to stick out and draw attention to itself/make a statement.

@asterix I put “prohibit from” as well.

Does anyone remember the cylinder problem in the first math section (I think)?
Also for comparing the two jobs in the second section I got 134 CD’s

Does anyone remember what they got for their answer involving the math multiple choice question about the surface area vs. volume of the cylinder. It gave the formula 2pihr for the surface area and then said the surface area was 70. I think it then said the formula for the volume was hpi*r^2. then it asked for either r or h in terms of the other, I’m not exactly sure which. This was really the only math problem I struggled with, and it’s been bugging me all day about how to solve it. Thanks for any help!

What was the theif one? What did you put for the thing about the either result for (arch

could someone please tell me what the tournament problem was, someone said the answer was 30, i just can’t remember that one

but i dont remember doing it at all thats why i want to know. was it a fixing sentences or finding error question?

please tell me the question not the answer

what do you have to score above to qualify for semifinalist?

Wasn’t the italicized between one the answer that was along the lines of “deceptive meaning to a previously stated word”?
Because it was introduced normally, then it was made to sound like the sister was actually obstructing the researcher’s views on the girl, therefore making it deceptive.

I honestly thought that Mo was being genuine when he was calling Duncan “kind” because Duncan allowed him to gain some popularity with the kids.

Tournament Problem:

Permutation:

n!/(n-r)!

n = 6
r = 2

6! / (6-2)! = 30

@lauren926
its 35(pi)(r)

2pih*r = 70
divide by 2 pi, your left with hr = 35. Divide by r and you get h = 35/r

than it is (35/r) * r^2 * pi. One of the r cancel out.

Tournament was 30

^The wording was “emphasize a different meaning to a previously used word” and that answer choice was correct, though not for the reason you said.

The tennis tournament was definitely 30.

@kamnn
I also thought it was that.

agh no, mo was mocking. because the previous sentence was “and that was when the enmity began” or something like that. im hitting myself over the head for that one.

anyone?!- what about the combining sentences for the improving paragraphs

@ellangog

Thank you so much! I had it narrowed down to the two answers with 35, and that’s the one I picked!

For the improving paragraph for the sentence to put between sentences 4 and 5 was it the one that said something along the lines of “If what’s his name had wanted to fit in he would have picked a less controversial topic.” I believe it was answer choice E.
