PSAT and college admission

I am a junior. Does National Merit Semi-finalist and Finalist really affect your chance of getting into an ivy league? In my school, everyone who got accepted to Yale was either a semi-finalist or a finalist. Also, my school offers only AP U.S. History (sophomore year) and A.P. European History (junior year) because history is not my specialty, I decided to take Honors instead. Therefore I have not taken any AP courses yet. I am planning to take 3 APs my senior year. Does taking AP courses affect your chance of getting into an ivy league? Thanks.

it will definately benefit your app

btw did you receive your psat scores?

the only way it can hurt is if your counselor checks off on a box that says very hard course load as opposed to extremely hard course load

By the way, the course load's not the only thing -- don't go killing your GPA.

potomac- I haven't gotten my scores yet. But I am pretty sure my scores are not sufficient to qualify for the merit scholarship. I hope this won't affect my chance for applying to an ivy league. Hopefully, I will score high on the SAT and the SAT IIs. I recently took the SAT II Writing. I am waiting for my score. I heard the SAT I is what counts the most, not the PSAT.
peecko- my GPA so far, is high. I haven't taken any AP courses, but I am in all Honors.
