My son took the PSAT Oct 15th so anxiously awaiting scores. He also took the old SAT in November and he got a 1960 read that score could confirm national merit if his PSAT scores are good enough. Anyone know???
Can the old SAT be used to confirm the new PSAT for National Merit purposes?
I believe 1960 was the old confirming score. However from other CC’ers is seems the new PSAT was easy so I think the PSAT cutoff scores are going to be higher than in years past and so the SAT confirming score may also rise.
My son got a 1960 on the SAT last June. Would that confirm his NMF status if he scores high enough to qualify?
I don’t understand. Did he take it in June or November or both?
And what state are you in that you think a student who got 1960 on the SAT twice will get above the cutoff?
You should have his PSAT scores, go online to College Board and look them up.
@rhandco amyandscott are referring to NMF requirement to achieve a SAT score that high enough to confirm the PSAT score. In the past it was 1960, a rather low score considering the PSAT state cut-off.
@amyandscott I thought I read something on the NMSC website that they would accept a qualifying SAT score (old or new) from Junior or senior year.
Under the old standards, the confirming score can be up to 12 months before the PSAT and up to 14 months after the PSAT. (See, e.g., http://www.nationalmerit.org/Merit_R&I_Leaflet.pdf)
I have no idea if that has changed with the new PSAT.
Any word on new PSAT cut offs for class of 2018 for AL?
We may be back at taking the SAT again this year for my s.
I heard 1960 would confirm psat.
