Okay, so when we took the PSAT this month and they told us that if you cheat, they cancel your PSAT score. So it got worried that they might cancel mine. I know I did not cheat. I was literally in front of the teacher, no one sat in either side of me, and I also put my pencil down every time the teacher said so. I also never went back to the previous sections or talked to anyone when going to the bathroom during breaks. However, what makes me worried is that I erased too much on the answer sheet. Would that raise ETS any suspicions of cheating? I know a few of my friends that also did the same, but they were in different classrooms.
Plus, they could look at the booklet that I showed my work. Or do they even look at the booklet? DO THEY??? As you can tell I’m kind of paranoid about this. It’s just I never took the PSAT or SAT at all. I’ve been “trained” for ACT so I was used the feel of it so it didn’t bother me, but this did. So basically my question is, does the ETS look at the booklet? How they look for cheating? What would be considered as a “substantial” evidence to them?
Oh and please be gentle. Don’t tell me to “chill” or “calm down,” because as soon as someone does that I start to get more anxiety. Thank you.
Chill and calm down.
Seriously though, they don’t give a damn whether you erased 1000 times or 1 time. It’s all machine graded so as long as you erased fully and completely you are good to go.
Also to quell any concerns about how they detect cheating, the washington post did an article on how they detect cheaters. Says that “In some cases, handwriting experts will be called in to check whether the writing on the exam matches other work by the test-taker.”
So if you didn’t cheat you literally have nothing to worry about.
So just chill out and focus on other stuff like school.
Nope. No chance of this happening.
You are overreacting. Go work on your grades and ECs, and put this out of your mind.
Chill and calm down.
Do u seriously think other honest people don’t erase and change their answers? I can’t imagine why anyone would worry about this for a nanosecond unless they have a guilty conscience.
I wouldn’t worry!!! The fact that you frequently erased and re-did answers shouldn’t bring up any allegations.
Thank you very much everyone. And hahaha, with the chill and calm down. But, thank you. And just to clear something… The reason why I freaked out is normal for me. I get anxiety every time I take a test, quiz, etc. Believe me that I try to calm down, but sometimes it just gets to the best of me. Just like the PSAT. So again, thank you for all your comments. It really helped.
Oh and after I posted the thread, I felt calmer. I guess I just needed to let it out??? I don’t know, but all your comments helped me out. Thank you.
But aside from that, what do they even do with the booklet? Do they even look at it? I know a few of my friends who barely wrote anything on it, so I feel like it was a waste of paper.
They give it (the test booklet) back to you later (mid December I think).
