My 9th grade daughter scored in the 97th% of the PSAT. (Scored with 10th graders but took same test as juniors.)
Friends getting college info but she has not received anything. What is she missing out on if anything? Thinks she selected option to receive materials. Is it her score?
Watch what you wish for! College spam will be on its way but maybe they give priority to the 10th-11th graders? That is an excellent 9th grade score.
It could be because she didn’t check the box saying it was ok to share her info with colleges. Can I ask what was the numerical score?
@alltoomuch getting college info has nothing to do with how you scored, only whether or not you checked the box for the Student Search Service, which would allow College Board to share your email address (NOT scores) with colleges and for them to send you emails. It sounds like she didn’t check the box, but if she’s sure she did, it could also be because she’s only a freshmen (I don’t know what the policies are on this). But honestly, she probably doesn’t want those emails anyway: the vast majority of them are from for-profit schools and other schools looking for applicants that a 97th percentile kid probably wouldn’t consider in the first place. The emails really clog up your inbox, and neither me nor any of my classmates have found them to be particularly helpful.
It’s probably because she’s a freshman.
I really wouldn’t recommend these e-mails to anyone. I’m an average student, but I’ve actually had to create a new e-mail address since my old e-mail is flooded with college letters.
I’m a senior now, and I’m currently getting countdown e-mails everyday (5 days left to apply!) from schools I’ve expressed no interest in.
Most of the schools that e-mail me are below-average. l I ended up applying to ONE school (Providence) out of the estimated few hundred that have emailed me.
