PSAT commended

On the back of my PSAT booklet it says, "If there is an asterisk (*) next to your Selection Index score, it means you do not meet requirements to enter NMSC competitions for awards to be offered in 2009."

I don't have an asterisk next to my SI score and I made 93 percentile. Does that mean I'm commended? Because I thought commended begun at 96 percentile?

i don't think 93 percentile makes you commended....sorry!

There was some confusion amongst classmates of mine who believed the lack of asterisk meant they were commended or finalists. It doesn't. It simply means you meet the requirements like being a junior, attending 4 years of school, and the like. I believe commendation begins at the 97% percentile with National Merit at 99%.

wait, so if I am 99% does it automatically mean I will qualify for semi-finalist? Because last year the cut-off for CT was 217 and I got exactly a 217 so I'm kind of worried. Also, they if I remember correctly they all went down a lot last year (CT went down something like 5 points) so does that mean that the scores are more likely to go up again and average out or continue the downward trend?
