Thanks for the info!

Ugh… I still haven’t gotten my letter. And I probably won’t get it from school, since our announcement system is highly ineffective.

Called National Merit Scholarship Corp. The cut off for letter of recognition is 201 for 2011

^Is that the same as last year?

Bummer. Was hoping it would be slightly lower.

I was gonna say that I got my letter today (211-FL…last year’s cutoff) and that one of my classmates also got a letter with a 202, so its <=202, but looks like elsa4maria already cleared that up.

So… is the “College Plans Reporting Service” just another CollegeBoard spam system, or is it worth doing? Anyone with past experience?

I was under the impression that most schools that offer big NM[S]F scholarships buy the big list of winners anyway… should I still pick two?

Interesting. I didn’t know that Semifinalists were judged totally on scores; I thought that every stage past Commended took academic record too.

I’m 217 in Florida, so I don’t think I’ll make it to Semifinals.

Past semifinals requires academic record. And if you have a 217 in Florida, then you are almost 100% semifinalist

Wow, thank you for the clarification. That makes me a lot happier!

Semifinalist does NOT require academic record. It’s based on a state selection index (you can look up those for past years on CC). Academic record is only taken into account for moving from semifinalist to finalist.

No letter yet (could be my school’s fault) - 219 FL

What does the letter say with regard to selecting 2 recs. Do you go online and fill them out, does your guidance dept send it in, or do you mail it in?

They give you a user ID# and a password and the cut off date for selecting your 2 schools is May 25, 2010 after which time the website will be unavailable.

My friend got a 215. I got a 206. We both got the April 13th letter. I don’t believe it has anything to do with commended/SF/F until May.

you don’t find out about semifinalist until September. Commended and semifinalists get april letter

So about 10 people got called down to guidance yesterday and got their letters… but I didn’t. I had a 224…yet some of those kids had like… 204s… any idea why I didn’t get one?

I got mine a few days late from other kids, and my score was lower. Just wait a little.

I got my letter today. 205 from NC

Jamezz93: You probably qualified as a semi-finalist. The 10 kids were being called down because they were commended. You will be notified in the fall

All test takers whose scores qualified them for commended or semifinalist status received “the letter.”

To be clear, anyone who scored 201 or higher should have a letter waiting for them at their school. Ask your GC if you haven’t received yours yet.
