So if I didn’t get a TASP email does that basically mean I haven’t gotten a top score?
maybe TASP lowered their standards for 2014? who knows but I still feel like collegeboard would get in trouble for lying if TASP sent emails based on 2015 scores
@cg2916 It means that you were not at the top percentile for your 2014 PSAT score.
Didn’t the CB say the emails were based on 2014 scores? And does this only apply to americans anyway?
It is very plausible to believe that the TASP invites were based upon this year’s scores, according to the cases mentioned in this thread. I guess we can get confirmation on that theory tomorrow. But, if our worst fears a true and CB released the scores to other organizations over a week before they did to students, does this even have any implications whatsoever? Does CollegeBoard not have the right to do so?
The concordance is available at https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/pdf/psat-nmsqt-preliminary-concordance-tables-2015.pdf
But I don’t think it’s going to be that helpful because the rounding is such a big factor. Under the old system, the high cut-off states needed about 225. You could miss about 15 points. Under the new scoring system you pretty much need at least 37 across the board–that’s just one off from perfect. I don’t know how many questions wrong this corresponds to. But it sure looks like the effect of rounding --did you get one of the 3 old scores corresponding to 37 or did you fall off the rounding cliff and get a 36?–is going to be huge, and a determining factor for very many, perhaps most, of the NMSF in the high cutoff states. It seems far more arbitrary than the old format.
Same… the evidence doesn’t point too strongly either way in my opinion about tasp. Its true that the scores don’t match up (people who did terrible in 2014 got mails), but many people who did very well have reported not getting emails. In addition, now that College Board has actually issued a written statement on twitter, I’m not sure what to believe.
@likestowrite I agree. The reason why I didn’t amend it was I was aiming the comment towards those who may be in contention for NMF. But now that I think about it, there are states with lower cutoff scores that were at 205/206 last year right? I was just thinking about Texas which is slightly above average at 219 for 2014 score cutoff.
The nature of the conspiracy is that CB is lying. I know it may seem that the CB is unsullied, but I do not trust these institutions. CB could lie and be fine too, I do not understand the hubbub about CB getting in trouble. One the same note, it seems more reasonable that Telluride used this years scores rather than lowering last year’s scores. It is speculative either way… TASP also targets minorities, that could make a difference.
I got a 209 on PSAT last year and no TASP email. Do you think it could be because my scores weren’t balanced? I had 99 percentile in reading and math but only 95 percentile in writing.
Yeah, I think the one thing we can all take away from this experience is not to trust College Board LOL
@masalvada123 How do you know your score? Is that from last year?
I wanted to believe in the TASP conspiracy because I wanted to give myself hope that I got a good score, but after thinking ir over I’m pretty much 99% sure they’re based on 2014. We’ll know tomorrow for sure though.
@masalvada123 that’s what I’m wondering too. I didn’t get the TASP mail either, and I got a 63 on writing but a 206 overall last year. If other people who did well on writing but poor on the other sections got the TASP mail, maybe everything would fall into place and the discrepancy between College Board’s tweet and everyone’s scores would finally make sense…
Anyone who got the TASP mail this year, what did you get on the PSAT writing section last year?
@Bunnylionn How strong is that left over 1%? Have hope! Tomorrow will never come soon enough.
I scored a 192 last year as a sophomore, and 178 the year before as a freshman. I’ve never gotten a TASP email, and I don’t remember ever seeing it in my inbox. I studied as much as possible for the chance of national merit this year, so I’m really nervous that I haven’t seen that dang TASP email/mail. Although, I did get emails and mail from other universities (like others have mentioned), such as Harvard, Stanford, Brown, Duke, Chicago, Colby. I DID put biological sciences all three years for my major, so maybe that has something to do with it?
@Studious99 I got a 68 on writing last year. And I got the TASP mail.
Are we getting the scores at midnight?
Could anyone elaborate on how important NMS is?
@ZebraWithPassion This thread is keeping it alive honestly :)) Everytime I read some of the post on here I can’t help but wonder…
