**PSAT Discussion Thread 2016**

I haven’t found one yet, and with ~a month left until the test, I decided to make one. How is everyone studying for it?

Mainly just SAT prep, but I will use the two released tests the week before the PSAT.

Our son successfully used the book ‘Barron’s Strategies and Practice for the NEW PSAT/NMSQT’ to prepare. Under $9 at Amazon.

I’ll have to check that out thanks! I’m using Khan Academy for now.

I’m using Khan Academy kind of randomly right now. I haven’t been focusing much on the PSAT because of the start of the year.

khan academy, but my review is not really structured.

I’ve just been doing a practice test every few weeks, and a couple questions now 'n then on Khan.

So how was it for all of you? I feel I did really well, but you never know.

I think the calculator math section was much easier than last year, but the writing section was harder than last year because of the confusing graph questions. I guess we’ll just have to wait two months to really find out.

Anyone take today’s alternate date PSAT? If so, what did you think?

I did! I thought the math section was pretty straightforward but some of the hard questions were really tricky. The reading section (which is usually my best section - I’ve been averaging 1-3 incorrect on all the practice test I’ve took) was more difficult in my opinion, especially with one of the middle passages with a realllllly confusing graph. The writing section was pretty average for me minus a couple of questions designed to be obviously tricky. What did everyone else think?

Has anyone’s school leaked their scores to students?

Thanks!

Finally was able to access my student’s score report! A 196 NMSC Selection Index in the 10th grade. Should be fairly competitive next year, I think.

Gah, I got a 1420
760 Math (yay)
660 English/reading
My index is 208
I know I dont have a chance to be sf or f but will I still get a letter of commended or am I out of the race?

Frustrated. Last year as a sophomore scored 1430 (690 R+W, 740 M, 212 SI), this year as a junior scored exact same overall (700 R+W, 730 M, 213 SI). Oh well, just means I’ll have to study for the SAT I’m taking in January. Still happy to get commended though and good luck to everyone!

Scored 1420 (680 RW, 740 M) last year, but dropped to 1380 (630 RW, 750 M) this year as a freshman.

Scored 1480, 221 SI… I’m from California so hopefully that SI cutoff does not rise otherwise I’ll receive commended

You may want to check your SI again or maybe you made a typo? My son just got a 1480, and his SI is 222.
