PSAT Freshman

I just took one of the newly released PSAT and got a 70 for reading/84 for writing/and 55 for math… Is that good for a freshman???

These were just my raw scores though, I didn’t convert them or anything…

Just percentages

@Mandeekinz
I don’t really understand how you are reporting your scores, what to you mean by percentages?
It would be more helpful if you reported your converted scores, for example:

Reading raw score 44 converts to 37
Writing raw score 43 converts to 37
37 + 37 = 74 x 10 = 740

Math no calculator 17 + Math calculator 30 = 47 converts to 760

Reading and writing 740 + math 760 = 1500

The highest score you can get is 1520 so this would a very good score;-)

@3scoutsmom So can u direct me to a conversion chart for the new PSAT??

It was posted on the College Board web site but the link I have for it isn’t working now. If you post your raw score for each section I’ll look up your converted score for you this evening. It have a print out of the score conversion chart.

Thanks to @pckeller

@3scoutsmom I followed the procedure for my scores and got 1170… is that a good score 4 a freshman???

This is just my opinion so take it for what it’s worth. I think it’s an ok score, certainly not a bad score by any measure. You’re well on your way and starting out as a freshman shows that you are motivated. If you haven’t finished the Khan Academy program yet I encourage you to do so. It really helped my kids.

The problem is we don’t really know what an average score for any grade is. The folks here at CC tend to be really high stats kids, my kids included. My 10th grade son scored a 1500 on the practice PSAT and my 8th grade son scored a 1280 but they are both on an advanced track so I don’t know if a direct comparison is accurate. My 10th grader finished the Khan prep before the PSAT practice test (he’s in pre cal this year so it was just a review for him) but my 8th grader is still working on the Khan math because some of the concepts are new to him. The PSAT practice test isn’t really geared to freshman and likely has concepts you haven’t covered yet.

I’d advise you to contact your school to see if they are giving the new 8/9 PSAT I think this test would give you a better idea of where you stand as a freshman. Unfortunately the College Board hasn’t release and practice tests for the 8/9 PSAT.
