Any tips on CR?
On the practice tests I've taken, I consistently score 77-80 math and 74-78 writing but only 64-66 reading. I live in FL and national merit is somewhere around 215, but I'm afraid my reading will keep me off of it. Any way to do better on reading?

Uh dude... if you add up your lowest ranges in every section you do have a 215..

Crosscurrent, try to love what you read in the passages and stay focused, and then learn some collegiate vocabulary. Also, take the day off the day before you take your PSAT.

Take a day off? like skip school or something??

I did poorly on the CR (66) and am a National Merit Semifinalist.
I'm also from a more competitive state than Florida -- New York, where the cutoff score this year was 221.

If you're bad at one of the three subjects, just make sure you ace the other two.

I'm in the exact same situation. On the practice PSAT that came with the registration, I only took the math section because I thought I still sucked at English.

I got an 80 on the practice. Recently, I've taken 2 old writing (grammar) psat sections and scored from 75-77.

From now on, I'm setting the math portion aside until 2 days before the test. I'm going to look at a few grammar rules and do a few more practices.

For the most part, I will just read some passages and memorize a few words. I advise you to completely ignore either math or grammar, particularly the one you feel more confident about or adept at. Practice a little for the other section and then focus on just practicing CR and reading every chance you get (Newsweek helps me).

FOCUS on what you are reading. I used to think, "Tried it and it doesn't work" everytime I saw it on this site. The problem was that I wasn't really focusing and remember to read the beginning italized passages because it helps you understand the point of view that the person is coming from.

I used to get like 580 on practice tests, but I took a recent PSAT (from the booklet) and got a 790.:)
