PSAT Merit Cutoffs...

hey i know everybody is getting all their stuff back already, but I dont know when my school is getting my scores/sending them out in the mail... so i guess it can go for either sat or wed (i took the wed one) but how is the curve/ do we know any merit cutoffs yet?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?goto=lastpost&t=251645
Those are last year's approximated cutoffs based on people here who posted about whether they qualified or not. This year's will be unknown till they tell us in September whether we qualified or not.

No, and we won't know for awhile.

for both test dates, it seems that math is like it's always been (1 wrong 77-76), reading is more generous (5 wrong can probably still give you 70+), and writing is almost as bad as math now...

im worried cuz math has never been my strong point (stupid mistakes galore + its just not my forte) and i got really distracted during critical reading... writing i think i did ok on tho, knock on wood

it seems like everybody is doing really well this yr so far tho? which means im screwed

So if say we scored like 10 points above the semifinalist cutoff based on last year's cutoff, then are we pretty much guranteed to be semifinalist ?

yeah .

unless it goes up 11 points...then you're screwed

It would never jump that much.

i was joking

Congratulations to those who made (or at least think they did) National Merit. However, would anyone know if this year's Commended Scores are going to be higher or lower than the average 200?

You see, I received mine today, and I made a 200 straight. I'm anxious to know if this will get me the Commended status or not.

How big of an accomplishment is being commended? semifinalist? finalist? winner?

And I think the commended score is normally a little higher than 200. It has been around 202-3 the last few years

yeah i got 202 last year and the cut off was 203. i dont think 200 is gonna make it. sorry.

do you think 224 will make california semifinalist?? ugh seems like this year's psats were harder than last's IMO....i got 236 as a sophomore, and now this. -_-

Ugh, I got a 220 in NY, so unless the qualifying goes down I'm not going to make it.

The math curve seemed a bit brutal. One missed and one omitted, and I went down to a 73.

At least I'm in the 99th percentile?

oh snap, math sounds brutal.... how was CR? there goes my chances of nat merit since im pretty sure i missed more than 2 math

I missed 3, omitted 0, lost an extra point, and got a 77 CR. So -4 = 77.

is that wed. or sat.

I took mine Saturday.

Never mind, I typed something that wasn't needed and now I can't delete it this post
