@nw2this
I finally got through on the phone. Invitation codes were mailed out today. Emails will be sent out on Monday.
@paveyourpath Thanks for the info
CB is late again, 8-|
Still haven’t received anything from the NHRP. I assume a 206 will be good enough to receive it?
Someone posted 204 for the South in this topic and that is usually the highest region.
Just got my email 20 minutes ago.
congrats!
I got my email too!
Also received the email with the Invitation Number this afternoon. Thank you NHRP for keeping the application short and simple.
Hello,
I have several questions about NHRP. My daughter received the email inviting her to apply. Before the email neither of us knew about the program. I’ve read all the threads on CC and the CB site but I’m still unclear.
My question- does recieving the invitation mean you were pre qualified as a finalist?
Of the students emailed, what percentage are recognized? How does the application play into this?
Is the cut off score known at this time or in September?
Basically I want to know if she is a finalist at this point or is that made known in the fall.
Thanks!!
@HailuMu - I believe that once you receive the invitation, you are qualified. Only the students who made the cut-off for their region (with the South requiring an SI of 204 this year) are invited. You still have to fill in a form and have your guidance counselor confirm your information.
As there is no scholarship money attached to the “title,” it is not as work-intensive as National Merit. However, there are special scholarships for Hispanics available and some universities treat “National Hispanic Scholars” as well as “National Merit Scholar Finalists.”
@TallyMom2017 thanks!! I think comparing it in my mind to Nationsl Merit must be why that info wouldn’t stick. Thank you for the clarification!
How do you know what the cut off was for your region? I couldn’t find that for 2015 on CB site
You can e-mail CB through the link above or call them at the indicated number and ask them. Obviously, you have to specify your state …
The only thing I would add is that the application states that the student must have a 3.5 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale and the Guidance Counselor should mark if the student is Hispanic according to the CB definition.
@HailuMu I had some of the same questions as you did. My son received his code yesterday and started his online app now just waiting for him to get the GC form returned to him. I wasn’t sure if this meant that he was up for consideration or he would be automatically receive this recognition once his GC confirms the info but he showed me the email today and it seems to read as if the kids just need to file their app by June and provide the confirmation (hispanic and GPA) and they receive this recognition. In September, if all goes well, the student receives their certificate and they can include this on the college app. Now, it’s not the same as the NMSF in that there is no money involved directly as there is with NMSF and the cut off is lower than the NMSF cut off; however, based on the schools my son is interested in the NMSF will be a prestigious addition to his college apps but the NHRP will be a bigger financial gain. Some schools don’t post what NMSF they will offer but do post what the NHRP offer is and it can be as good as $20K a year.
The confirmation form has to be returned to the applicant so make sure your daughter gets it back and uploads it with her app. Congratulations!
I have seen some schools that give nhrp scholarships equal to nmf scholarships and some where nhrp is less, but I have never seen any that give nhrp more than nmf. I also haven’t seen any that post nhrp and not nmf. Where have you seen that?
@nw2this I’ve looked at so many different sites for the past few months I don’t recall specific schools as I go through them and determine which information is useful to what I am looking for. It is interesting how much money there is out there though. we just need to keep looking.
There’s list going on the Hispanic Board, if you see anything interesting, feel free to add to the list.
Yes, the list linked above is a very nice start.
@paveyourpath she sent it in last week
Congrats to your son!
