PSAT/NMSQT State Semifinalist Cut-Off

Hi, I'm from Maryland and obtained a 223 on my PSAT. I'm woindering if this qualifies me for state semi-finalist.

Alse, does anyone know how the finalist process works? Is it based solely on PSAT scores or on SAT scores as well? That is, if I raise my expected SAT score, do I have a shot at finalist or no?

Thanks for your time.

samesies, i got a 228 in NJ

Both of you have a good shot at becoming NMSF. In order to advance to Finalist standing, you will have to take the SAT and show that your scores on the actual SAT are similar to those you earned on the PSAT.

MD was 221, NJ was also 221. They change every year but looks like you may have a good chance.

Advancing to finalist is based on SAT, grades, essay and recommendations.

The application for finalist includes SAT scores, grades, ECs, and an essay, as well as a portion for your counselor to fill out, which includes a recommendation.

Collegeboard says that the most common reason for semifinalists not to advance to finalist is not completing the paperwork. So if you get semifinalist and don’t completely fail the SAT, you have a really good shot at finalist.
