Based off last year's PSAT, how many questions could you get wrong and still get in National Merit Scholarship? Whats the minimum scaled score?

For semi-finalist status, the cutoff depends on what state your school is in. For example, in 2010 (corresponding to the 2009 PSAT) the cutoff score was 221 here in New Jersey. The exact number of questions wrong depends on the scores in CR, Math, and Writing; roughly, it would be about 7-9 questions wrong on the entire test.

Thanks… it seems a long way til the actual scholarship… even after getting 220 or whatever you still have to take SAT, do essay, etc…

What state do you live in? States like south dakota have cutoffs around 205

While states like California, New Jersey, and Massachusetts had cutoffs of 220+ for the high school class of 2012.

I’m in Oklahoma, and you can miss ~13-15 here and still hit NMSF.

PA here, and it was a 215.

Ok I guess it’s not that bad for me cuz i live in Washington. <215 cutoff you think?

According to other threads on CC the cutoff for Washington state for class of 2012 is 220. For DC it is 223. However, many state cutoffs went up significantly this year. Cutoffs for next year could be higher or lower next year, but going down 5-7 points seems unlikely.

You are correct. But those states have cutoffs no more than 224. 220+ can go from 220 to 229 but obviously that isnt the case.

don’t forget NE boarding schools, we need 223 too!

^ That sucks, what boarding school do you go to?

203 in Arkansas. lol. Wooooooooooooo.

Should I move to Wyoming? Increase my chances lol
