yes, na is my only hope now, national merit is totally out, and commended is nice, but means next to nothing (IMO)

I'm in KS where the cutoff score was supposedly 214 last year.
My predicted raw scores:
-1 math (78)
-6 critical reading (69)
-4 writing (74)

that would be a 221 (accoriding to bulletin)

Thanks mesotired and setzwxman for the info. I can only hope that my writing score being as I high as I estimated, and that a 214 will qualify for semifinalist in the hillbilly state of Indiana.

I'm a sophmore in NJ so the cutoffs dont really matter for me, although 221 is damn high! Predictions:
-8 CR (67)
-6 math (68)
-8 writing (69)
...204 if im lucky, my goal was 200 as a sophmore so we'll see.

OK, my state (NY) has a cutoff of 218 for semi-finalists (2004 and 2005). I'm seeing a 79 writing, a 71 math, and a 77 critical reading: that adds up to a 227. I have a good feeling about this exam... but then again 227 is a pretty high index. I guess I'll find out soon.

State cutoff: 216 (TX)
Sophomore year: 220
Predicted: 232 (just a guess - it is the score I revceived on the practice packet - 80 CR, 74 M, 74 W)

Uh, 232 is not your score on the practice bulletin. You got a 228(74+74 = 148+80=228). Oh well, you're in Texas, while im in crappy ass Maryland, where the standard was 222 last year. I'll be lucky if i can crack 220.

Of course...sorry I just messed up on my typing - I got a 78 on the W, just typed 74 twice (it was in my brain, I guess...I dunno). Anyway, I think I got somewhere between a 233 and 240 this morning.

Has the selection index always been going up this much? Does anyone think the selection index will go up again about the same as last year?

sigh MA has the highest cutoff in the nation, and on my practice tests, I scored in the low 200s. Has anyone done/recommend PR for junior year, as I'm an anxious sophomore?

I think I got 200-210. I had a cold and made many stupid mistakes! I had 166 as freshman and 187 as a junior. My low scores were due to my critical reading and writing. However, this year's AP English class is extremely challenging and we do SAT tests in record time. I improved from getting 50% correct to about 80-100%.

BUT I made the dumbest mistakes on math. I missed three and I know exactly why I missed them! bangs head on table

(sigh)

I predict Ohio's selection index to be 216 on the assumption it's gone up by 2 points for the past 2 years, and I for one don't think the reformatting of the psat will have any effect on scores

expect:
750 - 800 CR ( i don't know of getting any wrong)
650 - 680 M (omitted two grid ins, one regular, and know i got one wrong)
70 - 73 W

I see your logic celebrian25. But what have the scores been doing the past few decades. Surely they haven't been increasing that much.

Math-I omitted 3 i think and missed 2 or 3. So I'm thinking 66-68.
Verbal-omitted 2 and missed 2 or so. Thinking about a 72.
Writing-No idea.. but I did pretty well. None omitted, maybe 3-4 wrong? About a 74.

66+72+74=~212. I'd be content with that score, considering I didn't expect to make SF (I live in New Jersey).

CR- 4-5 wrong= 70-72
Math- 0 wrong= 80
Writing- 2-3 wrong= 74-78
All totaled: 224-230 (best guess: 227)

More than 60 and less than 240. :)

But really, I'm expecting at least 210, and less than 225...
CR: Probably missed a lot. a lot meaning more than 5, because I traditionally do badly
Math: -1...
Writing: maybe 4-5 wrong if I'm lucky?

Add a few more careless errors and I'm in the 210-215 range, meaning I -might- qualify for CA. Depends on the cutoff.

cutoff for CA is 216 for semi finalist, i believe, or is that commended?

Alex, of course they haven't been going up 2 every year, but I don't have any other data to go by

Yea it is for last year. But at previous years it's been fluctuating between 214-216...

Maybe this year it'll take a dive. :P prays
