<p>Hi there, I was just wondering how to prepare for the PSAT's and since there is no specific forum, I though I would ask it here. </p>
<p>So how would I go about studying for the PSAT's? Is it just like the studying for the SAT's but when the time comes to take the test, you just take the PSAT's? I'm a rising junior and I really want to do well on them this year and prepare for them over the summer cause I didn't do too well last year. I am also planning on taking the SAT's in the fall so that's why I am wondering if studying is basically the same.</p>
<p>I took the SAT for the first time in October of my junior year. It was 4 days before the PSAT, so I could study once and do well on both tests, since the questions are almost exactly the same. For all intents and purposes, SAT and PSAT questions are the same except for the fact that SAT math has a few questions that go up to Algebra II whereas PSAT only covers Geometry and Algebra I.</p>
<p>I studied all summer before junior year. I did practice problems daily, usually for 20-30 minutes, and I took practice tests every week and twice a week in September. It was a lot of work and it really sucked, but I got a 2260 on the SAT and 227 on the PSAT, passing the National Merit Semifinalist cutoff score. I’d say that studying the summer before for both tests is the best way to go, since it means less studying. You wouldn’t want to study all summer for the PSAT, and then have to continue this intense studying to take the SAT 5 months later.</p>
<p>Good advice to study as you would for the SAT. However, since the PSAT does not include an essay, we are waiting until the PSAT is over to begin working on that part.</p>
<p>Thanks for the advice guys. Also, are there any prep books that are better for the PSAT’s over the SAT’s and vice versa? For example, one that is really good for CR and math but doesn’t focus too much on the essay since there isn’t one. Or is there a book specifically for the PSAT’s?</p>
<p>You’d probably be better off just straight preparing for the SAT. The SAT and PSAT are basically the same thing, except the SAT is much more important. Any SAT prep you do will only help you on the PSAT, so don’t stress too much about it.</p>
