PSAT preparation

Is it worth it to sign up for PSAT test? Or should I just have my child do SAT test preparation? Which one is better, Princeton Review, Kaplan, or Testmasters, or Double800? Thanks

Definitely sign up for the PSAT test because they will give you the test after and you can definitely study from it.

For Critical Reading, definitely get Barron's 2400 book...has some really nice strategies in there...as for vocab, get the original Barron's book and study the Barron's 3500 word list.
For Writing, go with either Gruber's (has a nice section of rules on there) or Barron's Writing Workbook (nice essay section)
For Math, go with Gruber's again
and also get the official collegeboard book.

I'm sure that SAT preparation will be a good preparation for the PSAT. After all the PSAT is supposed to be a shorter/smaller version of the SAT. So, I would suggest to concentrate on preparing for the SAT. Sign up for the PSAT though, it provides a good prediction on what needs improvement, and what is your predicted score.

I would suggest the Blue Book (also know as the Official SAT Study Guide, I think. The cover is all blue). They have 8 practice tests. I would do this first, then I would do tests from other companies, this is because not all the companies write accurate tests.

After the blue book, I would suggest the Princeton Review 11 Practice Tests book, if you need more practice.

Definitely, you should read about the Xiggi method for more info. I've pasted together the main points and put it here:

<a href="http://rapidshare.com/files/37399305/Xiggi_Advice_on_SAT_Prep.pdf%5B/url%5D">http://rapidshare.com/files/37399305/Xiggi_Advice_on_SAT_Prep.pdf</a></p>

Unfortunately, there are no practice PSATs available except the ones you can pick up from your counselor's office. There is only one test available and it should be there by early September.

I would not use the Princeton Review book because those are not real tests.

I used Prepme.com's program and it worked pretty well for me. It's online and customized to each student so it worked out well for me.

you can buy old PSAT's directly from the Collegeboard store. I think they are only $3 each.

Bad advice here. Must need the CB blue book (yes, i know it's mentioned in your above post, 21385), Grammatix guide, and the SAT online course.
I'm trading those items, btw..

Use GENUINE College Board materials (including released old tests) to prepare for College Board tests. Definitely take the PSAT when it's available.
