I'll jump straight to it:

How similar is the PSAT to the SAT? This is to say, if I have a SAT prep book from the CB (2005 & 2009 I believe - both from someone I knew and my sister) and practiced using these, would I be set for the PSAT?

What exactly is the PSAT NMSQT and how does one qualify? Is it SOLELY based on the state's cutoff score and what you got (so like if the cutoff was 205 and you got a 206, it would qualify)?

Gracias senors y senoritas,

AND IF YOU CAN ADD ANY GENERAL INFORMATION/ADVICE ABOUT THE PSATS FOR A RISING JUNIOR, IT WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED!! Thanks :3

Yes, you’d be set. Questions on the PSAT could just as easily qualify as SAT questions and vice versa. In fact, I believe the Wednesday PSAT from 2010 came from a past SAT.

The NMSF (National Merit Scholarship Federation (or Foundation, IDK)) uses the PSAT as a qualification test to honor (at first cut) 34,000 Commended students and 16,000 Semi-Finalists. The cutoff for Commended is the same for the entire testing population. The cutoff for Semifinalist varies state to state (but is always higher than the cutoff for Commended). To qualify as Commended or Semifinalist, all you need to do is score at or above the designated cutoff. So in your situation (score of 206 with cutoff of 205), you’d qualify.
