Post your soph PSAT (if you took one) score, your junior PSAT score, and the score(s) of any SAT's you took, in order. Also, mention what you did to prep for each one (unless you didn't). If you're a senior, did you get national merit recognition?

I'm only a sophomore, awaiting my first PSAT scores in a few weeks, but I was wondering what a normal improvement would be from PSAT->PSAT and/or from PSAT->SAT.

Soph PSAT - 159 (no prep)
Junior PSAT - not available yet
Junior SAT 1st try - 2030, studied on my own mainly (practice tests, reviewing grammar, etc.)

Soph PSAT - 220 (Didn’t study)
Junior PSAT - not available yet, but expecting 230+
Junior SAT - 2360 (blue book, direct hits, grammar rules, practice tests)

@biovball Was the direct hits vocab sufficient enough that you didn’t have to study any other sources of vocab? Or did you already have a good base vocabulary

Junior PSAT: not available, hoping for at least a 210, no prep. I live in a high cutoff state and I made dumb mistakes so I’m not expecting to be a finalist, but I’m sure of commended.

Junior SAT (this November): 2190 660CR/770M/760W with no prep in CR or W and some prep in math (practice tests and youtube videos). Just gotta get that CR up! I made THE stupidest mistake in math, I realized it as I left the testing room (1x0x2x6 is zero, not 12), but I’m optimistic that I might happen to get an 800 on another date. If not no big deal, a 770 is pretty much the same thing anyways. My overall goal is a 2250, a 720 in CR shouldn’t be too hard to swing

Edited just to add: My sophmore year PSAT score didn’t really reflect my SAT score. I got a 69 in CR, a 70 in M, and a 60 in W. Those are some big increases. Don’t worry too much about your PSAT score reflecting your SAT score. Only one of my soph. PSAT score ranges was accurate. It can be a good indicator but don’t let it get you down/don’t get too smug if you do well.

Sophomore year PSAT-191 No prep, really low score on critical reading
The summer between sophomore and junior year, did lots of practice tests, purchased SAT online course, memorized 2000 vocab words.
Junior year October SAT-2110
Writing:670
Reading:640
Math:800
Thinking about retaking it either January or February, if anyone has any advice on how to improve critical reading score, please let me know!
:)

Sophomore PSAT: 215 (Did not study at all.)
Junior SAT: 2400 (Studied for two months w/ the Blue Book, other official tests, Silverturtle’s Guide, Melzer’s Guide, Direct Hits Vocab, Xiggi’s Method, Grammatix, and various dictionaries.)
Junior PSAT: Haven’t yet received but a projected 235+.

Sophomore PSAT: 160 (was asleep)
Junior PSAT: 170 (didn’t care a damn)
Junior SAT: 1850 (tried a little, no prep really)
Senior SAT 2050 (actually tried, still no real prep though)

But honestly, part of my problem is endurance. I get tired and shut down after about 60% of the test. If I had better endurance or could take each section on separate days or something like that I’d probably be making a 2250 or so.

@teeheelol I’m not entirely sure, although in my case I felt the Direct Hits book was enough. I actually only got about halfway through it. Quite unfortunate, because the only questions I missed on CR were three vocab questions that were in the book lol. So if I had finished the book I would have got a 2400 :/

Junior PSAT: 223 (NMSF) - Only prep was the practice test they gave us. I took the SAT twice junior year. The first time was right after the PSAT and I didn’t prep. The second time I got some math tutoring. Each individually is a 2260, super-scored it’s a 2320.

Sohomore PSAT: 189 (no prep)
Junior SAT: 2140 (two practice tess, some vocab studying)
Junior ACT: 34 (2280 equivalent) (no further prep)
Use prepbooks! They help a lot

Little prep done for any of it thus far. So far in my experience, I just get better at the test by knowing what’s actually on it. Got commended in CA because it’s so competitive in the state and my school doesn’t really even prepare you for anything. Guess that’s why you have to do it on your own. Oh well. Sending ACT instead.
