Psat -> sat?

Hi all,

First-time poster, seasoned CC lurker. I got my PSAT scores back today, and my score is in the 98th percentile (210). I'm a junior, and I haven't done a whole lot in terms of SAT preparation, but I would love to score somewhere in the mid 2300s+. I would also love to never have to deal with the SAT again, so right now I'm viewing this as a one-shot deal. I'm scheduled to take the SAT in March. I have the blue book, and I plan to buy one or two more preparation books. Is it possible for me to, independently, get my score into the 2300-2400 range between now and then? I think that prep classes are wastes of time.

TL;DR: Is it possible for me to bump my projected score of 2100 up to ~2350 in the next 3½ months?

Also, I know it's a long shot, but is it possible that I'll receive some kind of recognition for my PSAT score? I live in California (and I know that it has one of the highest cutoffs).

Recommendations for how to bump up my score are also greatly appreciated, as is advice from those who have scored >2300.

What’s your score breakdown?

Ah, I probably should have included that.

CR: 68
Math: 67
Writing: 75

shameful bump

I don’t know. I think you’ll be commended. I’m in the same SAT boat,though. except my situation is dire.

For what it’s worth, the average score at my school goes up about 150 points from the PSAT to the SAT. With good preparation I see no reason why you can’t work up to a 2250+. That doesn’t mean you will; unfortunately, many people just plateau at a point.

Be careful with your assessment about prep classes. Many are indeed a waste of time; some, however, can be very valuable.
