I got my PSAT score today. It's 6 points higher than last year's cutoff for NMSF in my state. :)

My question is... is there any way that I'm not a NMSF? It would have to jump 7 points this year for me not to qualify; does something like that happen sometimes?

It’s incredibly unlikely–I really doubt you wouldn’t qualify. It usually increases by 2 or 3 at the most. Congratulations! I’m still waiting on mine in DC.

Thanks! I’m in Louisiana, so the score cutoff is a lot easier. But we have a shortage of high scorers here, as I’m sure you can guess lol. This is great news! Best of luck to you! :D

Haha congrats decrescendo. I’m here in LA too. The pathetic score cutoff we have here is the reason I’m national merit this year. I probably wouldn’t have made it in any other state.=P
I’ve been watching the scores here for the last three to four years, and the biggest jump I’ve seen is two points. I think you’re safe.

Haha you’re only the second person I’ve ever seen on CC from our wonderful little place. Are you from south LA? Most people here are. I’m from up north.
Yep. If you’re above 212 you’re safe.

As everyone has said already, it’s highly unlikely.
Unless all the super geniuses from the New England states decided to move to LA, destroy the PSAT, and raise the average, which I think is how cutoffs are determined, you’re probably safer than safe :)

Haha agreed aleader. And that’s cool! Best of luck to you. May we both travel far from the confines of our current location. I’m personally hoping California or Connecticut, if ya get me… lol, a guy can dream ;)

Nice, chrissyblu! The only schools I’m applying to which I’ve visited are Rice and Tulane… the only one’s within driving distance.
Since I’m probably getting NMF though, my dad said he’d think about the family possibly taking a week-long road trip to California to visit USC and Stanford this upcoming summer. :D
