PSAT Score Report

Hi.

I got a mail that says I'm one of the top scorers on the PSAT and all that stuff and it says that I can send my scores to two colleges.

How people usually choose those two colleges? Does it affect admission at all?

thx

Familiarize yourself thoroughly with everything National Merit if you want it to make a difference. There are many threads that go into that in detail.

I’ve looked around a bit and am wondering the same thing. There’s no thread that gives a clear-cut answer regarding the score sending… I’ve seen stuff about colleges that give scholarships for being a semifinalist or whatever, but we don’t even know if we ARE semi’s yet. Can anyone give an actual answer here?

I already get plenty of mail from colleges saying

“Wow looking at your PSAT scores we feel you can do GREAT at our college and blah blah blah”

so what’s the point of doing this?

Did you check [National Merit Scholarship Corporation](http://www.nationalmerit.org/?)?

There’s lot of links, so can someone tell me about it?

Is it for scholarship (i.e. I can enter a chance to win a scholarship from the two colleges I decided to send scores to?)

The point of sending the information to two colleges is to say “Hey! Look at me! I may be someone you want to recruit!” It is utterly pointless to send this to colleges which do not offer NM scholarships.

Please also note that you will hear from colleges about NM scholarships even if you don’t name them as one of the two.
