<p>Think I can get national merit as a junior?

<p>It depends on what state you live in, but for the majority of the 50 states I would say that (judging by past cutoffs), you ** just ** missed it. Then again, a few states have slightly lower thresh holds…</p>

<p>It pretty much comes down to the state you’re in.</p>

<p>As far as improving in the CR goes I’d say don’t overthink it. I got a 74 last year in CR and got every comprehension question right without using any formula or strategy. I just read the passage then answer the questions. Refer back to the passage as necessary all the answers are all going to be in the passage in different words or slightly under the surface, there isnt any deep analysis going on here. It helps to be a fast reader. The best way to do well on the vocabulary section is to get the answers right.</p>

<p>I don’t think a 200 is enough for even the lowest award.</p>

<p>^A 200 may be enough to be commended, but it probably won’t make the National Merit cut-off for most states.</p>

<p>I don’t think so. National Merit Commended is about a 201. National Merit Semifinalist can usually range from 205-230, depending on what state you live in.</p>

<p>^Really? From what I remember, 204/05 was the lowest for Commended.</p>

<p>^^And I don’t think semifinalist ever got as low as a 205.</p>

<p>Hmm. I’m pretty sure that commended is 201, unless its changed recently. As for SF, I’ve seen states such as SD and UT get as low as a 202.</p>
