wait so a 216 will not qualify for SF in california?

Last year someone with a 217 got it though

No one knows. It will be the top 50,000 or top 55,000 scorers in the nation, who get recognized for National MErit, than the top like 16, 000 get Semi Finalist and the bottom 34,000 get commended. The top 15,000 approx. get Finalist from that. But, if you are black american or hispanic you will definitely get some recognition from them.

I got 219 myself, the cutoff seems to have been around 217 for the past few years so hopefully I make it :D

I got a 221 in NY. Hopefully that will be high enough.. :(

I haven't got my scores yet...no fair.

Thank God I live in AZ!

210 in OH ... yeah, I'm probably out.

209 in Canada.. but they don't even give out NM scholarships here
sucks for me!

I also live in California and scored a 222, so hopefully that will qualify me.

i got a 219 in texas.
i think the cut-off was 215 last year, so i'm ~probably~ in, right?

How far would a 228 go in the national merit selection process in California?

All of the last three posters will probably qualify for NMSF.

does a 189 count for anything in FL? thanks!

189 will only count if you're African American or Hispanic for their corresponding scholarship programs like National Achievement. These are usually in the 180s-190s range. Other than that, no.

Yeah, if you can qualify for National Achievement for blacks or National Hispanic for hispanics you only need to be like .25 hispanic or black I think.

Does a 235 in California most likely mean I'll be a semi/finalist?

80 Reading
75 Math (-1)
80 Writing

[Top 25 in High School, 2220 SAT]

Is everyone just fishing for compliments?

Refer to this chart, which has been posted numerous times. There's your answer, as best as anyone can answer, not knowing how cutoffs may/may not change.

Yes, bamboozle, most definitely.

Also, for those who are wondering what the difference is between semi-finalists/finalists:

Out of the approximately 16,000 students chosen as semi-finalists, 15,000 will be named finalists. This selection process takes into account your transcript (course selection/GPA) and some sort of writing (essay or writing sample). But if you are named a semi-finalist, there is a 90%+ chance that you will also be named a finalist! So don't fret! :)
