PSAT Scores - Value of Commended Title?

I just received my PSAT score of 209 (class of 2016), which I suppose could be better. In past years my state's cutoff for the semi-finalist status has been around 223, the higher side, so it's rather certain that I won't be making it. However, I thought that perhaps I might receive the Commended title. Is it worth anything? Does it appeal to any colleges? A little disappointed, but I didn't really study much so I can only blame myself.

Thanks in advance!

Depends where you’re applying, but at top notch colleges, it won’t be helpful.
Then again, the common consensus is that NMSF doesn’t really help anywhere either. If you get NMSF, it’s very likely you have five relatively high quality awards and a good SAT/ACT score, making its irrelevant in regard to the admissions process.

National Merit awards can result in significant scholarships at some schools, but I’m guessing they’re sort of redundant for admissions because colleges can already see your test scores.

It probably means nothing, but congratulations on the score. Just the fact that you got a 209 proves that you are smart, and probably an excellent applicant for most colleges.
