PSAT Scores

Hey all - Im a high school sophomore who took their PSATS for first time and just their scores.

I know its annoying but can anyone put them into perspective for me:

READING: 59
MATH: 58
WRITING: 72

TOTAL: 189

Thanks ... and gl to everyone for everything.

last year as a sophomore i got 214:

70 reading
74 math
70 writing

but i heard that this year's PSAT was harder. yours seem fine, they're supposed to improve quite a bit between sophomore and junior year...

last year as a soph i got 204

63 verbal
69 math
72 writing

i've definitely improved and although i haven't gotten my score back yet i feel i did pretty well on this PSAT.

sophomore this year--just got my scores back and scored very close to a perfect 240. I'm a little frustrated knowing that if I were a junior I would qualify for National Merit Finalist. Is there anyting I can do about that? I'm pretty mad that I'm going to have to take the test all over again next year. I felt that my CR score was so strong this year because I knew most of the vocab--I hope I'm as lucky next time around. Any ideas what the chances are that I'll have as good score again next year?

Why are the PSATs so important in the US? I was never asked to do it here nor do I think it is offered here in the first place!

h88, the PSAT is used to select students for the National Merit Scholarship program, which is only open to US students.

I see, so basically the ones who actually score above 200 are entitled to get a National Merit title?

The Commeded cutoff is usually around 200-201 nationally. The Semi cutoff is different for each state, based on the scores in that state.

Guys - this thread was asking about my scores ... not to be rude ... but I dont see why it turned int oeveryone else comparing.

I'm a sophomore now... I think I did pretty good this year, but haven't gotten my scores yet.

Freshmen scores though

Verbal - 50
Math - 64
Writing - 50

I didn't do that good last year :-\, but I improved a bunch this year, I know I did

You asked to put your score into perspective, so we probably assumed you wanted to know how you did compared to other people's sophomore scores.

Otherwise... I say your scores look fine.
What do you want to know?

You're off to a good start... I only got a 175 last year, but got up to a 219 this year... Assuming you make a good improvement (as most do) you should probably get at least Merit Commondation next year...

And you can take a look at your percentile... I'm pretty sure that compares you to juniors rather than sophomores, but it can give you an idea of how much you may want to improve for next year...
