PSAT to SAT

On average, how much does the sophomore year PSAT score go up by the time you take the SAT?

Usually 15 to 20 points. However, there are many exceptions. Mine went up 30. Shows how hard work can pay off. =)

Oops, I thought you were asking about sophomore to junior psat increase. I don't know the answer to your actual question though. I suppose it would depend on when you take the SAT.

That's still close to what I was asking, so thanks for the info. Congrats on the big improvement!

When I took the PSAT my sophomore year, my PSAT score was the equivalent of a 1110 on the SAT. At the end of my sophomore year I took the SAT and got a 1230. After 2 more testings, I ended up with a 1380! :D Obviously, I was happy! Anyway, for me the sophomore PSAT wasn't a good indication of my SAT score. Hopefully you'll have the same luck I did.

I'm not 100% clear on your question, but here are my test results:

Sophomore PSAT: 204 (67V, 75M, 62W)
Junior PSAT: 232 (76V, 76M, 80W)
Junior SAT: 1500 (740V, 760M)

I made a pretty significant jump from sophomore PSAT to junior PSAT, which translated roughly into my SAT score as well.

JimmyEatWorld711, isn't it strange that your SAT score was below the PSAT score? Normally, the SAT score is much higher (I would expect you to have gotten around a 1560).

Yeah, I don't know either. I was actually rather pleased with my SAT result (I took the Dec. 4), because after coming home from that test and checking CC, I thought I had completely bombed it...I guess that just wasn't a favorable test for me.

This year my friends have gone
1260 PSAT -> 1460 SAT
1260 PSAT -> 1420 SAT
And another guy told me he had a 70 pt increase. The first 2 studied hard, the 3rd guy didnt study at all.

So definatly study hard and you may get yourself a 75-200 point boost. Depending on how low your PSAT was.

PSATs: 1290, 1330 (something 500 for the Writing portion)
SAT: 1500 (800m, 700v); 740 SAT II Writing

I don't think I focused during the PSATs. I'm usually pretty dedicated and score really well on tests/standardized tests - was disappointed by my scores. A lot of my other friends were National Merit Scholarship Finalists. Work, study, take a review course - you've got to want it and be dedicated for the SATs.

10 Real SATs; Kaplan Course.

Hmm... I'm a sophomore right now and haven't gotten my PSAT back yet.

Freshmen PSAT: 1140
Freshmen SAT: 1220
Sophomore SAT: 1200 blah :(

7th grade SAT: 1170
Freshman SAT: 1350
Sophomore PSAT: 1370
Junior PSAT: 1460
Junior SAT: 1550

towerpumpkin..
what did you do that helped you improve so much from sophomore PSAT to junior SAT?

Sophomore PSAT: 1220, 600 V, 620 M
Junior PSAT: 1330, 640 V, 690 M
Junior SAT: 1450, 730 V, 720 M

i had about the same experience as towerpumpkin and i think it was because i had precalc and now am in calc. experience reading denser texts also helps

Sorry this is a bit late....but basically I started caring...just because of National Merit...I paid attention to what I was doing on the test, practiced a few times during fall break (a week before the test), and went over a stack of vocab. I made sure I got all the math problems right (my strong point), and I suspect my verbal increased also because I read more books over that period of time. Also, the vocab that I was required (for school) to do in 9th and 10th grade helped somewhat.

I got the exact same score on PSAT sophomore and junior years, but my writing increased 2 points to an 80. My verbal and math scores swapped for the two years but it all added up the same and they were almost the same anyway...
Then I took the SAT once junior year without studying (didn't study for PSAT either) and only got a 1540 but what the heck didn't feel like taking it again this year so I didn't. Could've have retaken the ACT (30 7th grade) but counseler told me there wasn't any need unless I had a bad SAT score...

Sophomore PSAT : 52 V, 57 M, 74 W = 183
Junior PSAT: 71 V, 76 M, 75 W = 222
Junior SAT: 770 V, 700 M (dunno what happened with math..)

It's a matter of confidence and concentration (studying doesn't hurt though)...

yeah and being a smart little asian girl who skipped two grades too, eh whirligigs?

Sophomore PSAT: 64 V, 80 M, 75 W= 219
Junior PSAT : 73 V, 80 M, 72 W= 225
Junior SAT: 760 V 800 M= 1560
I made strides in the verbal after soph year, and it really helped to learn vocab
