PSAT vs. SAT

Are the two tests similar in difficulty? If so, would it be accurate to consider your PSAT score a prospective SAT score?

The tests’ questions are of the same type and difficulty. A PSAT score roughly translates to the SAT score you might have received on that same day had the test been longer.

But remember that there is no essay on the PSAT and that (I think) the SAT Math section tests more concepts, which can have an effect on your score.

I took the PSAT and the practice test of collegeboard for SAT. PSAT is not as hard, even without the essay. Their math problems are not included algebra II stuff, and their CRs are easier than the SAT

The PSAT has 2 sections of critical reading and math and 1 section of writing which is all grammar. It lasts just over 2 hours. The SAT has 3 sections of CR & M, an essay and 2 sections of grammar for Writing and lasts almost 4 hours. The same concepts are covered on both tests. For juniors the PSAT scale is very harsh because of the National Merit Scholarship program.

afraidtoapply, you’re unduly generalizing off of two tests. Even though I got them all right, I found the Math problems on Form W of the PSAT to be harder than any of the sections from the Blue Book. The CR questions on Form W were definately above average in difficulty compared to the Blue Book’s tests.
