PSAT Writing Question

This is from the PSAT practice booklet.

The opponents of the bill were few but influential enough to prevent its being passed in the House. No error

I choose d because being passed sounds awkward - shouldn't it be "its passage"?

Also, is there an idiom rule for "write"? Do you use "of" in the past tense, and "about" in the present?

Is the answer “its”.

If it is, it would read:

“The opponents of the bill were few but influential enough to prevent it from being passed in the House.”

You can see the answer and explanation to this question and all others in the sample PSAT on the College Board website.

Thanks for the info RenaissanceMom! By the way the answer is E…

Okay then… Sorry I can’t help. XD
