My son is rising junior and will be taking PSAT this year. He has only one book of Kaplan PSAT. he can’t find much online tests too for PSAT since it is the new one. Can anyone suggest how can he get more practice papers? Online or is any book available?
Thanks.
Barnes and Noble should have lots of books with practice tests. He should also use the little prep booklet published by the College Board. That will have the info he needs to study for this year’s test.
Go to www.Khanacademy.org/sat
Work through the SAT prep it is basically the same as the PSAT just a little more advanced.
So far there is only one official PSAT practice test:

I think it’s smart to study for the PSAT in that it determines National Merit Scholar status. DS1 came just a couple of points shy of NM without any studying. We were under the impression “it’s just prep for the SAT - no worries” so we didn’t raise the studying as a to-do. He did great on the SAT (near 2300) but there are no specific rewards for that other than being one component of the college acceptance criteria. DS2 is a rising junior so we’ll have him dig into the prep materials.
I would think that any practice test for the SAT would be good practice for the Practice SAT.
The familiarity with types of questions, and timelines is all good practice.
A quick glance online makes it look to me like there are plenty of places to get practice SATs free.
@younghoss But, since this is the new PSAT, you’d want practice materials for the new SAT, of which there are fewer. Also, since neither test has been administered, companies other than the College Board are just guessing based on one released PSAT practice test and 4 released practice SAT tests. And, since the questions the College Board released last fall for the New PSAT are quite different from the more recently released practice test, who’s to say that the College Board itself isn’t guessing about how actual kids will score.
The College Board has released a sample test for the new PSAT, and a number of publishers have now analyzed this and released study material and additional sample tests.
Any studying is good practice for the PSAT, but I would say the old-version SAT is not the very best practice, since the new PSAT is going to be a different format that the SAT will follow in 2016. Khan Academy has partnered with the College Board to provide PSAT tutoring. I can’t get my children to use it.
Early in the process I read that the new PSAT is going to concentrate more on basic algebra and geometry, so one would do well to make sure that one does not have any gaps in these areas.
You should also check with the GC office in September, they should have a booklet from the College Board with a (hopefully) different practice test for the PSAT.
^ Oh yes, I’d forgotten about those.
