Psat

i am a junior, imminently taking the psat, and i took the practice psat found in the little booklet CollegeBoard gives you. to my considerable surprise, though, i score a 220, under timed conditions. is this practice psat easier than the actual one or not, because i then took the a practice psat from the princeton review and scored a 200?

PR I got a 190…

It seemed too hard (especially CR/writing)

thx, but did you take the practice psat given in the collegeboard packet?
yeah and the critical reading and writing did seem, relatively, more difficult

I took the practice test today and got a 206, my states cutoff is 210, so i’m not really worried. I did notice that this years practice test is easier, compared to last years ( i took the 2009 college board practice test and got a 186)
This might bode well for the actual test…

My sophomore year I took that and I got a 218, when I took the real PSAT I got a 202. Some tests are easier and you get luckier, so its not that good of a estimate.
Take a couple of tests (The College Board Official Study Guide has the most accurate tests) to get a good estimate of our scores.
The thing about the PSAT is that a couple questions will determine your score. -1 in math and writing will bring you down to a 75. So if you had a 70 writing 2 questions would separate you from a 230 to a 220.

My sister who scored a 220 on the PSAT during her junior year told me the practice exams were always easier than the actual exam… which contradicts with my story though. Last year, I scored a lousy 176 on the practice exam but I got a 180 on the actual test… so since I got a 198 on the practice exam, maybe I can pull off a 200+ tomorrow? lol

@feedback411 - I got a 198 too! I really hope your theory works. :D

^ haha let’s just pray for the best. I even thought that a 198 was a pretty good score, considering how the average is like 150 or 160, but after seeing all the ccer’s PSAT scores, my confidence level just boosted down D:

Would it better to guess or skip on questions that you are not sure?

Do not omit Qs on the PSAT. The curve is harsh.
