are the psats a good indicator of what you may score on the real sats?

and when is the best time to take the sats?
my friend says its best to take it at the end of junior year because by then you will have more knowledge from the school year...
but i don't know if i should wait that long because by then i will have forgotten everything i learned in my sat classes.

oh yea, what about the tests in the official sat book?

are they a good indicator of what you may score?
because if they are... then i might as well not take the sats.

i took 3 practice tests and i got :
1444, 1555, 1590
and on my psats from sophmore year i got:
1550

i've been studying the whole summer for the sats but my score just won't go up! what do i have to do?!??!
i MUST get at least an 1800... but HOW?! how do you people do it?!??!!

PSAT is good enough to tell you roughly what you will get. And also tells you what areas do you need to work on the most. Some score higher than their PSAT score and some score lower than their PSAT score. The SAT more than 4 hours long. PSAT is like 3 hours give or take. 1800 isn't that hard. The easiest sections to improve are Math, Writing, Essay, Critical reading, In that order. If you want to focus on improving, The math and Writing sections are the easiest to improve. They are straight forward. Memorize the properties, formulas ,Rules and etc... pretty straight forward.

I dont think PSAT is all that great indicator of how well you will do on the SATs. I did a whole bunch better (300 points over) on the SAT. But it does indicate how much you have to study!

My S got 218 on his PSAT & 2230 on his SAT, so the scores weren't that far off. Does depend on the individual & how exhausted they get from the longer SAT exam, as well as how much they prepped after the PSAT for the SAT. At my kids' HS, they advise all students to take the SAT & ACT by spring of junior year, so they can determine how they're doing & whether they need to retest in the summer/early fall.
