PSP Anyone..???

I noticed that there was really no activity on this thread. I know it's mostly because RD decisions aren't out yet which is going to contribute to most of the class, but still I was surprised to see nothing here from the ED students. So, I thought I'd start one about the PSP because I am required to go. So, anyone else on CC planning to head to Cornell during the summer too? If so, what are you expecting? Are you exciting? Any questions that we can discuss? Any general comments? etc. :)
..I was admitted to CoE by the way.

Congratulations on getting accepted into the CoE! Which engineering are you planning on majoring in? Did you apply ED? What were your high school stats? I’m a junior, but I plan on applying to CoE next year. Do all freshmen have to attend the PSP? If not, then why are you required to? Also, what exactly is the PSP?

The PSP if the Pre-Freshman Summer Program that is required for some admitted students and all students admitted through HEOP and optional for some other admitted students they feel would benefit from it. The program is designed so students can become more accustomed to college who may not have been exposed to some aspects of college - whether studying, independent living or whatever. It is to help students who might not have had certain opportunities in high school as others. Cornell is saying that they will bring up your skills so you can perform academically to your potential, instead of rejecting you, because they recognize that there are students with an education from a prestigious private school and students with an education from a not so prestigious public school. It’s more a reflection on your high school because some are more well equipped than others. Cornell wants you to succeed, so if there is some gap in your education, they don’t want you starting off behind and that’s what the PSP is for.

My stats:
SAT: 1980
SAT II: 730-math2, 580-physics (horrible, horrible physics teacher, public education, that’s what the PSP’s for)
ACT: 31
GPA: 3.926 out of 4.000 UW
class rank: top 3% (11 out of 416)
APs: human geography, world history, calculus bc, physics b, us history, language and composition
ECs: varsity volleyball, student council, national honor society, national beta club, mu alpha theta, SSLT (shiloh student leadership team), MCSA (multi cultural student association), french honor society, senior board, and french club
Community Service: probably around 80 hours from various places: homeless shelters, nursing homes, tutoring, etc.
Awards: nothing big really just ap scholar, georgia certificate of merit, several merit awards from my school (I didn’t really have other opportunities)
Senior courses: AP macroeconomics/AP government, honors french 3, anatomy, AP stat, AP literature and composition, and environmental science

I did apply ED and I plan to major in civil engineering.

^ what county in GA may I ask are you from?

I live in Gwinnett County

Desiree! I’m also required to go to PSP! My high school is great, so my circumstances are a little different than the norm. I’m really excited though! I was able to talk to a current freshman that went last year, I’d be happy to share some of the details of our conversation that might be helpful (:

My high school is horrible. I really don’t know what to expect with the PSP, so I would love to hear about it.

Went to PSP last year xP
I thought it was going to suck at first because I was missing my whole summer away from home before I entered college, but it turned out to be an amazing experience. You’ll probably meet manymany friends there that you’ll still keep in contact with during freshman year. Though, there’s a lot of required events which suck because they suck up one or two hours during the evening hours.

@Meepify. How was the work? Like did you have to take real classes and stuff?

I got into ILR and, if I choose Cornell, will be going to the PSP. I was also wondering about the course load and social life.

I have been invited to participate in PSP and have taken College classes at my high school. What activities did you participate in exactly and were the class as rigorous as your freshmen classes ? Also did you have a lot of free socializing time ?
I also developed a Facebook Page for PSP
