I'm a dad of an OOS daughter who is up for PSP (currently semifinalist) for class of 2014. Would love any info you all might have regarding when/if finalists have been notified. The only info I have thus far is that decisions will be made in "Early February" and that it appears that you only may hear if you are accepted as a finalist. Two layers of uncertainty - not good ;-).

i was wondering if they call everyone…or only the people who got in…b/c someone called me and left a voice mail.i wasn’t able to answer it…and i tried calling back but no one answered…so now i’m nervous.

If it is okay with me asking, Bigb14 and Lepidus Animus:

What were you guys GPAs looking like?
Test scores?
high school classes?
APs?
ECs?
Awards?
school type (public, private, etc.)?
state?
rank in class?
intended major?
I just think that these types of stats from actual PSP finalists will help other students who are striving for the PSP, like myself.

We were told the committee would get back to us by Wednesday. Acceptances would most likely be by phone, and if there was no phone call, we’d probably receive a letter. I think the local committees notifiy the students for this “round”, and if they cannot get in touch, then the Tech Committee will attempt to make contact. Based on that, there will probably be variations on when our students receive notification. It’s my guess that we will all know one way or the other by whatever deadline your committee members gave you.

Having said all that, my son got a telephone call this afternoon, and he’s “made the cut”!

Congratulations Everyone! On notification methods: Usually finalists get a phone call, but my finalist notification last year was by email. I don’t think they would send it by snail mail, due to the delay.

You will get to experience Tech and ask questions on PS Weekend, but if you have any burning questions you want answered, feel free to send a message my way.

My son got is phone call yesterday … that he IS a finalist

@majord14:
SAT 1600/2390
SAT II: 2400 (Math 2, Phys, Chem 800 each)
GPA ?? I’m not familiar with the way this is calculated 102/100 are his average test scores. He’s ranked probably 3rd out of 77 Seniors.
He’s going to a small private school in Virginia, he didn’t get into CalTech and got waitlisted at MIT because he has no real “research” activities - school just doesn’t offer it (they’re happy if they have a AP Physics class each year).
Strong academics (5 AP classes in Senior year).

Did anyone get notified by telephone today or receive their letter in the mail (assume some letters in Georgia might have reached today?) or by email?

My son didn’t receive anything in the mail today. So it means he will have to wait another day to hear something. Wish they would have let people know by email.

So I am asking again, did any semifinalist out there receive a letter in the mail?

DS just got an email today from Randy McDow congratulating him on being a Presidential Scholar. (He also got a phone call earlier in the week from the local alumni).

We live in the metro Atlanta area and son received his “Although we were most impressed …” rejection letter for PSP, yesterday (Thurs. 02/04). The letter is dated Feb. 1st, but the postmark is clearly 02/02/2010.

It sounds as though the finalists have received a telephone call (and at least one person has reported an email follow up yesterday) and those not selected are receiving snail mail, that was not necessarily posted on Monday, Feb. 1st, as mentioned on the website.
