Psssst! Look at this one! It'll chance you, too!

Hello,

I, like everyone on this forum, would appreciate it if you, the random forum reader, might take a few moments from your busy life to give me your opinion on my chances. If you would be so kind as to do that, it would be the least I could do to reciprocate.

Dream School - Yale, Brown
Others - Harvard, Princeton, Rice, Vanderbilt, Cornell, UVA, UNC

Obviously, these are all top schools, and my chances are limited, but, if possible, rank them according to each other, not just: REACH, REACH, REACH, Etc...

SAT score is bad, but I don't plan on submitting it, and I plan to retake the ACT.

SAT II - Physics: 680 (several months after the class)
AP - Physics B: 4

Currently in AP Lang and APUSH
Next year, I'm taking: AP Calc BC, AP Chem, AP Lit, AP French, AP Gov, AP Econ

Every summer I volunteer at my rowing club to help run the Learn to Row sessions, teaching the kids how to row (150 hours per summer)

I have safety schools to apply to, but I figure there is no need to list them as they are my backups. Please tell me if I'm aiming too high, and if so, what schools would be more realistic for me to apply to? I've visited almost all of the schools on my list and really love them all, so I would really appreciate some insight into what my realistic chance are of getting into any of them.

Thanks again, and post your thread so I can help you out!

Reaches (in descending order of likelihood):

Vanderbilt
UVA
Rice
Cornell
Brown
Yale
Princeton
Harvard

You have a better chance at UNC.

Niflheim’s probably right, although you might have a fighting chance at Rice or UVA.

Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1118399-chance-theatre-acting-inclined-junior-ill-chance-you-back.html#post12333784</a></p>

Am I entirely out of my league in reaching for the Ivies?

No, but a retaken SAT would help you out a bunch. I’m of the opinion that it’s not a good idea to submit just one of the standardized tests.

To second StrangeBro, no, not entirely, but a vastly improved SAT would certainly help. I had a friend get into Brown with similar stats, only instead of crew, she had orchestra…

Chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1118635-heh-neurotic-asian-speaking.html</a></p>

I’ve taken the SAT now twice:

1 - 710 Reading, 660 Math, 570 Writing (1940 Composite)
2 - 670 Reading, 690 Math, 730 Reading (2090 Composite)

The difference between reading sections was almost entirely my essay improvement, but the other two sections didn’t really change much, they actually almost entirely flipped. Is it worth the money to retake it when I probably won’t do significantly better? Or do you think I will actually improve?

You have a considerable shot at all of those schools. I recommend taking more subject tests, but don’t bother taking the SAT again. Your ACT is great. I am, however, concerned that your EC’s are slightly generic, and your awards are lacking. Also, I think you need to demonstrate your commitment to bio/chem more–maybe take up an internship this summer or do some research?

If you have the time, I’d love it if you could chance me.
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1112525-chance-junior-please.html</a></p>

Yeah, I was looking into trying to intern somewhere like the CDC this summer since I live in Atlanta, but I haven’t had much luck finding anything yet.

Anyone else? :)

^ Wrong account, oops.

What would be the least you could do? I like to know what im working for before making the effort to assess your chances.

I will return the favor, of course. You’re reading to deeply into what I’m writing. This isn’t the next Pullitzer Prize winner, this is just a post on an online forum.

Yale
Harvard
Princeton
Brown
Cornell
Rice
Vanderbilt
UVA
UNC

In descending order of chance of getting in high being least, low being most. Work on SAT and ACT and you got shot at all

Chance Back:http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1118901-chances-ir-major.html</a></p>

UNC, UVA, Rice, Vanderbilt, and Cornell = good shot.
Harvard, Yale, and Brown = reach. If you can get up your test scores, you’re in much better shape (as is the case for me  ) only because they literally do reject 36s and 2400s all the time! Chance me back for Northwestern please!!! ;)

Assuming I’m to retest either the SAT OR the ACT, which should I do? I would assume I should just work on the SAT because a lot of schools want full score reports so I cannot just send SAT IIs and leave out the SAT I.

bopo u need to improve your sats. I had a lot of trouble with the sat when i started taking it- consistent 1800s. HOWEVER, with one and a half years of practice, in which i put my sweat, tears, and blood, I got a 2300.

Hard work is the second most important thing in order to get a good sat score. What’s the first you ask? The belief that such hard work can improve your score. Believe in yourself and hard work and you can do anything man.

Answer my thread mate :]

Thanks for the advice man. Did you self-study? That’s awesome.

self study since the day i was born until the day i die. If you get your sats in your golden mate

dang, crazy EC’s

You’re looking at roughly something like this, in tiers from least to most likely.

Yale, Harvard, Princeton, Brown
Cornell
UVA, Rice
UNC, Vanderbilt

Test scores aren’t great. The EC’s are good, above average. The grades are there. Physics scores aren’t really encouraging either. Your other SAT 2 scores will need to make up for that if you want a shot at the top schools.
