PSU Application Personal Statement

My D will be applying to PSU next year and I see that they no longer have a 1200 character limitation on the personal statement but allow up to 500 words. I called the admissions office to ask about the ideal length of the personal statement and was told they would prefer something short (a couple of paragraphs) to something long (2 pages). I'm not sure how much they really even read the personal statement.

Just curious for those of you who were accepted this year whether you followed the shorter is better advice? Did you submit a personal statement and how long was it?

Mine was only 200 words, got me in just fine. Truthfully, I don’t think they take that into account too much, just make sure it sounds knowledgeable.

It says on the website that they only look at it if you are borderline.

Mine was just under 500 words-I was borderline(3.7 gpa,27act, out of state). My theory was if nothing else it would show I can follow directions. Accepted main campus/fall. Good luck!

<<my theory=“” was=“” if=“” nothing=“” else=“” it=“” would=“” show=“” i=“” can=“” follow=“” directions.=“”>></my>

Smart.

I did 500 words I believe I don’t think the personal statement is very important though.
