PSU BA/MD program?

lol i'm definitely staying overnite two days...you guys rock....and i already know siyi, she went to my hs last year...

soo any1 want to add any of their thoughts about this program??

if they are going for sure, not sure, or what not...

for me, im most likely leaning towards coming to penn state, not too worried about 3.5 gpa, and the 27 mcat i think i'll study and take the right classes to prepare for it...soo i think it'll be a fun 2 years at PSU

Wow! I missed so much on here! first of all, I'd like to congratulate those who got into the program! And for those who did not, there are PLENTY of opportunities out there. Trust me, it took me a lot of deliberating to come here because I had essentially free honors college thing going for me in my home state, but I chose the program instead.

So I'm a 2nd year in this program and I may or may not see you all during Prog Weekend (p.s. for all you program prospects, the Hindu Students Council here will be holding a Holi celebration on the Friday you come where basically we celebrate color and spring by throwing water and color at each other. It would be really awesome if you came out if you're up for a fun time!)

And all these questions you guys have here? please bring them to prog weekend because in my opinion, that weekend helped me cement my decision in coming here. and I'm sure many others will have the same questions you do. But there are two things I wanted to answer/talk about: 1) you can be a prog and live in honors housing (a.k.a. Atherton or Simmons). They are great for resources (many study rooms and separate computer lab in Atherton) but the dorms are in Atherton is ehh. Simmons is part of South and its dorms are pretty nice. All areas have pros and cons. also 2) the person who asked about BU 7-year vs. PSU 6-year. A PSU program alum just came to visit and talk and he works in Boston now as part of Harvard med school. His message: in the long run, it really won't matter where you went, it's what you do. He said Jeff prepared him well when some people, even from Harvard, were not as prepared as he was. Definitely visit both is my suggestion.

That was a mouthful. I don't come on here often, but you could leave me a private message or something like that. Good luck with the rest of your decisions!

thankss
idk if i already asked, but do you know anything about FISE housing b/c i got something in the mail about it..and i have to apply (write a 1 page essay?) by apr 15. i don't know my options for housing
where do most progs live?

^Yeah I got this too...uhhh...what exactly is the deal here?

i THINK its like housing for science majors or somethin' ummm i dunno, and you get help with yer work or something? hahah i have no idea what that's about.

Most of the progs just live with other progs. (I think) this works out since they match you by major, and there's a separate major for the program. There was no need to do FISE housing for this, though. I'm not sure how that option is.

If anyone who is thinking of coming to the program has a Facebook, there is now a Facebook group where you can ask questions and get to know people and such. It is under the name "Prog Weekend Stuff."

can you apply ED to psu's ba / md ?

I don't think there's an early decision here. Very ambitious, indeed.

does anyone know whether or not being in the top 10% of your graduating class is a requirement? i read it off their site and got confused, my school doesnt even give out that info. they dont rank or do percentiles .. so what would happen in that case?

^I got in, my school doesn't rank either. I also submitted the ACTs so the SAT requirement didn't really apply either.

here are my stats, what do you think?

at psu in order to get into a med school for the 6 year pro. u have to get a 27but do you have to make certain scores in each subject or can u just get a 10 in 1 subject and a 4 in the other and a 13 in the other

oh and ur ecs are great even though im only going to be a sophomore in high school. but ur borderline on the sat scores, a 1440 (which is the lowest you can get to get in) translates into a 2160 on the 2400 scale but dont get me wrong thats a great score

i have a ? for the reqs for this program do i have to be in the top 10 kids in my grade or top 10%? i am getting mixed up on the highest tenth of ur class deal.

It's top 10%

what if youre in the top 15% or so? can you still get in?

Yeah, are they really strict on the class rank requirements? I'm in the top 11% just 1 person away from 10%... Arggg! Will they automatically toss aside my app because of that?

thanks for the info and im not sure if they do just toss it aside but maybe if u have other really good scores they will look dunno though
