i totally agree.

I think this is the page about the program: [Penn State’s Accelerated Premedical-Medical Program (B.S./M.D.) — Eberly College of Science](http://www.science.psu.edu/premed/premedmed/accelerated-premed-medical)

Also, I have a question about the 6 year option. I noticed that the 6 year option includes 2 summers. If you live in PA, can the 2 summers be done at your local branch campus? Also, can those 2 summers be avoided entirely if you have enough AP credit?

No way, Jose. Time to leave home and join the crowd.
And JoePa’s back again. May never quit. Maybe goes for the big 400 this year!

Anyone applying this year?

^I am. Have you sent in your app? I haven’t started anything. Does Penn State use common app?

i’m applying! i was wondering if 50 hospital volunteer hours (compared to the hundreds i’ve seen other people having) would still allow me to stand a chance for this program. my GPA and test scores are fairly good, and hopefully my essay will be as well.

No Penn State does not use common app. You have to go their website to get the application. There is a supplemental app for medical school that you have to complete as well.

so my penn state account site says that my application is being reviewed. anyone else apply to the psu/jefferson program this year? my friend told me to expect something by mid january the latest. has anyone gotten anything yet?

That’s quite early… They send out some random like brochure thingy liek sometime in the winter, but it doesn’t say much.

@forsworn
I think you can out-AP stuff to a point, but I think there’s a sequence so to an extent I think you can’t escape it. I’m not sure though, you should totally msg someone in the prog facebook group. Although I applied and got accepted, I don’t currently attend. sorry.

I can dig out the interview email for you guys h/o
January 12th I got an interview notification last year.
I remember that people on here said they got it at different dates though and that the interview notification is sent in batches.
Hopefully there won’t be a blizzard to screw with your chances of attending the interviews (quite important I believe). I believe it made my acceptance possible.

i got my interview email a month ago

^anyone accepted?

If I don’t have a lot of medically-related activites right now but I really want to go and definitely want to become a doctor, can I make it to the interview stage based off just grades and scores? I’m pretty solid that way at least, but I just recently found about about these programs and really really want to do it now. Any help would be really appreciated, thanks!

You NEED medically-related activities and shadowing. Saying so and having the grades unfortunately will not be enough, as you have people just like you (grade-wise) with hundreds upon hundreds of hours of shadowing and volunteering. Those are the people that will be getting interviews.

If you’re just about to be a senior…well the best thing I could suggest is to volunteer and shadow as much as you can during the school year (some is better than none) and make sure your essay is beyond awesome at conveying why you want to be a physician.

Do you guys think that I have a reasonable chance of getting in?

I was also wondering if you could study abroad in this program if you were to do it in 7 years?

hey about this 6 yrs medical program thing at psu, you only get to stay at psu for only 2 yrs and then u get transferred to jefferson which is the part that sucks about it. i was thinking about the early assurance program at psu hershey medical. [Early Assurance/Early Decision Programs - Penn State MD Program](http://pennstatehershey.org/web/md/admissions/overview/earlyassurance)
it is actually 7 yrs in length and u get to spend the whole 7 yrs at penn state instead of spending 2 yrs at penn state and then 4 yrs at jefferson. i am lost. i want to spend my college years at Penn state but the 1 year difference of the early assurance program and 6 yrs medical program is really confusig me to the core right now.
HELP ME CHOOSE. 6 YEARS MEDICAL PROGRAM THAT I ONLY GET TO psu for 2 yrs or the early assurance program that i will be able to spend the whole 7 yrs at psu

I am applying to this program, but I am confused about the medical supplement. The website says that there are required responses from the medical school on the Penn State online app. However, I have already filled the app out (but have not yet submitted), and I haven’t seen them. I even emailed Penn State admissions and the person told me to “just follow the psu app process.”

Is there a separate supplement?? Thanks.

sup man, im in the program right now, so I could definitely help you out. Your numbers are good, but could be a little better. i think you should take the ACT one more time and try to get a 34+. your SAT and SAT II’s are weak in terms of the program, but dont worry about it. just dont submit your score. i had a good SAT score, and a bunch of SAT II’s but i didnt even bother to submit those because my ACT was better. and i did fine so you should be good too.
your med related ec’s are solid. its more than anything i ever did, so big plus right there. that said, you are a good candidate, but its the essays that really seal the deal. you’re going to have to put a lot of effort into your essays and make it apparent why you want to be a doctor.
and you can definitely study abroad in the program - even if you go the 6 year path! i know people who have done it before so it certainly is possible and doable, so if it something that interests you, go for it!
if you have any other questions, feel free to PM me and i will get back to you. good luck!

@lovelyday0, I’m applying to the program too so good luck. When you select that you want to be part of the accelerated medical program one of the pages afterwards contains the supplemental essays so you fill it out there. Seems like there may have been some system error for you or you may have not selected that you wanted the accelerated track.
