Not sure if this is a good thing, or a bad one. Every year the freshman class gets a little bigger, housing becomes a little harder, tuition/fees/housing/mealplans rise a little more. We just paid our last PSU bill and it has risen about $3500 since 2012…
Wow…no wonder they are not that quick at making decisions.
Quantity doesn’t equal quality.
I am curious how many of those 88k undergrad applicants are for UP and how many for the other 22 campuses.
Well for 2014, which is the last year the common data set was updated online, there were about 50,000 applicants to UP campus. http://www.budget.psu.edu/CDSRedesign/cds.aspx?reportindicator=FreshAdmn&Location=UP&AY=20142015
You can look at the applications for any campus on the common data set as well. I have been waiting until the common data set was updated for last years admissions (class of 2019) because we were told it was a record year as well. I am wondering, since applications have not closed yet for this year (and in fact, the priority deadline hasn’t even passed) if these numbers AREN’T for the class of 2019 and not the current applications. I doubt they have all of the number for the current application cycle yet.
Yes, according to this article, the record applications was for the class entering in the fall of 2015, i.e., the Class of 2019. Like @jihpsu says, there’s no way they can have all the numbers for the current application cycle yet – the Priority Deadline hasn’t even arrived!

@OhBoyChoboy That makes sense that it was from last year.
